Can you believe that Miffy is 60? When I was little the Miffy books didn’t ever cross my path. I don’t know why. I was aware of the character of Miffy but had never read any of them.
A few months ago I was in a charity shop and spotted a pristine copy of Miffy at the Gallery for 25p. I snapped it up and it has become a firm favourite of Mr. D’s and is a regular book in the reading pile. I’m pleased that I have finally discovered the wonder that is Miffy.
I saw via twitter a few months back that it was this adorable little characters 60th birthday – remarkable that Miffy has been such a firm favourite for so long. Since then we have added to our Miffy book collection with Miffy in the Snow and Miffy at the Seaside. Both are lovely little books and we will be using them more in the coming weeks as part of our weather work.
Mr D really does adore Miffy and is very excited to put up the Miffy bunting for his birthday next month – I’m very tempted to do a full Miffy theme for his big day complete with balloons etc.
I think Miffy appeals to parents as well as children for it’s simplicity. She is a simply drawn illustration but one that is much loved. I love the products that are available – the keyrings are fab (I think Miffy reading the book is perfect for me!) I’m hoping to build up our Miffy collection of books. There are some great titles and we have the Christmas sticker book which looks brilliant, but I am saving that for closer to the time so the children can get in the festive spirit.
Miffy books have such enduring popularity as they just work so wonderfully. The text is fun to read and is as perfect and easy to read as it was 60 years ago. The bold, flat colours also give it a classic appeal, but one that is timeless. I hope to be able to follow Miffy’s adventures more soon.
Which Miffy books should I be looking to add to our collection first?
