Ad – Gifted item
During the current restrictions, we have had to think up some new ways of passing the time. One of those is to have a family games championship. The basis is that each day we choose a game. Whoever wins gets a point. When the restrictions are lifted whoever has the most points can choose a new family game to buy.
So, with that in mind I jumped at the chance to look at Wordsearch Junior game. When I was little I LOVED doing wordsearches, and Em seems to have inherited this from me as well. Daniel is also getting into wordsearches and I find they’re great for helping with spelling and language play.
What’s in the Box?
So, the box contains the play base, a series of grids which are double-sided and coloured green, red or blue (to indicate level of difficulty), there’s four sets of counters and the instructions.
It’s super easy to set up; just choose a play board, pop it in place and turn the base around to the start (there’s a coloured part of the card which indicates the start)
Playing the Game
This is aimed at ages 5+ but we had a game with H using the green board (he’s four in June). This one shows patterns. As you turn the base it shows you the pattern to search for. When a player spots it, they shout out then point it out. If they’re correct then they can lay their playing tokens over the pattern on the board.
The game continues until you return back to the coloured part of the game base. At this point, all the counters are removed and whoever has placed down the most counters is the winner!
We played this four/five times on the first outing and then D and E continued to play on their own. I’ll definitely be playing it with H on a 1-1 basis as he was enjoying it, but getting frustrated that his siblings were quicker than him!
We really enjoyed this wordsearch game and it’s a fun game for us to play together. Em struggles sometimes with her spelling so this was a good way to get her to think about how some words are spelt. I really liked the different levels and we all found the patterns one harder than we anticipated!
All in all a really nice, fun addition to our board game collection and one that the children had already shown an interest in playing together (rather than needing me to referee it!)
