When I was little I always wanted some of the Sylvanian Families collection. I don’t know why I never got any of them, maybe my parents thought it might end up being a huge collection of little things that would no doubt build and build. I remember one of my friends had some and she had an ice cream set for them, a boat, everything.
They were such lovely little things and I’m glad that I’ve been able to live my childhood a little through my own children.
Miss E is at an age now where she quite enjoys bashing character toys up and down on the floor to mimic them walking. She can recognise a few animals so I thought it was a good time to introduce her to the Sylvanian Families animals. I gave her a small rabbit figure and it was instant love (by both me and her!)
Mr D wanted to have a look but Miss E kept screeching ‘Mine’ so I think it’s fair to say it is her little toy (for now at least). You can also now get little outfits for the characters – Miss E is a little young for these yet but Mr D won’t be far off being able to dress them – such a cute idea. Our little sailor bunny has a nice evening dress and shawl for her glamorous outings.
Sylvanian families is 30 years old now, and it’s one of those toys that has stood the test of time. I really wanted them when I was little so I’m glad that I’m now able to share them with Mr D and Miss E. The characters are so cute – I can’t decide which is my favourite! I look through the catalogue and think I have found a new favourite until I turn the page and see the next character which I then fall in love with. Mr D has enjoyed looking through and telling me all the things he can see. He is at a lovely age where he is beginning to imagine them and their story – everything is nearly always going on their holidays! But he tells me about the animals on their boat ‘going on their holiday’ and it’s so cute.
There are lots of little downloads and stories on the Sylvanian Familes website – I have a couple of the colouring in sheets which we are going to do this week. The site is well worth a look at as the stories are nice for giving some background to the figures you might have. I can’t wait for the children to start their own stories and adventures with these little characters. I’m hoping to get some of the cow family characters next – for the children of course….
I was sent the Sylvanian Families Character and some small goody bag items in exchange for this post.
