Learning about the Taj Mahal : Little World Builder

I wrote a couple of weeks back about the Little World Builder subscription box. We loved the first one, so when our second one arrived the children were super keen to get stuck in. The second box is about the Taj Mahal, a building that I knew relatively little about and it’s also in a part of the world we haven’t studied in any real detail as yet.

Inside the box

I won’t cover the idea and concept of Little World Builder again; more can be read about that in this original post here. The second box arrived in its distinctive yellow box and the children were excited to get stuck in.

The contents included information and activity booklets, stickers and scrapbook page. There was a gem excavation kit as well as the building kit. We read through the information booklet before taking a look at India on the map and watching some YouTube videos. We also read about the Taj Mahal in the Atlas of Advetures Wonders of the World.

The children set about working on the activity book and I read some more information about India to them from our Travel Book. I thought Em did a great job on the symmetry drawing activity!

Building the Taj Mahal

The children enjoyed building this building, but it was definitely much more fiddly than Big Ben and they did need my help with this one. None the less we did get it built and it looks really good, the attention to detail is superb!

Once it was built we then had a go at digging out the gemstones, which was lots of fun and a little messy!

Expanding our Learning

As we haven’t really studied much about India before we did make up a small lapbook to cover some of the main points. We included the flag, an information document and some information about its geography and the main sites.

I intend to cover the religions of India later in the year as part of a wider study on religions of the world. This was a good way to consolidate much of our learning and the activity book from our Little World Builder box was definitely a great starting point.

I really enjoy subscription boxes as they give us an excuse to concentrate on things that we might not ordinarily have come across to study at that time. The children really enjoyed learning about the Taj Mahal and India and we can’t wait to see where the next box takes us!
