It can seem like every day is a ‘National’ day of something but when I saw that last week was World Nursery Rhyme Week 2014 I was pretty annoyed I’d missed it!
I only realised on Wednesday evening after I saw a few tweets across my timeline. A bit more investigation and I found the Music Bugs website. The week was aimed at under seven’s and I am sure many parents spend time singing nursery rhymes to and with their children. They are really simple for helping to develop language as well as a bit of play with rhymes like teddy bear, teddy bear, row the boat and incy spider to name but a few.
The week saw a challenge of a rhyme a day and there are plenty of resources available if you sign up to register on the site (at the time of writing these are still available). As we were al unwell for most of the past week we plan to undertake the challenge next week.
Monday – Old King Cole
Tuesday – Hey Diddle Diddle
Wednesday – I Hear Thunder
Thursday – Oranges and Lemons
Friday – Five Current Buns
I have some ideas for what I will do for these and I plan to post up our activities across the week.
Did you or your children take part in the World Nursery Rhyme Week this year?
