After the success of our Easter tuff spot activities last week I decided we’d have another tuff spot activity. I received some lovely books through the post – the Treasure Hunt books from the wonderful Wide Eyed Editions.
I cleared the Easter activity away and replaced with coloured pom poms, jumbo tweezers and coloured cups and dishes, as well as a copy of the tehcnicolour book for the children to look at. As soon as they saw it they were straight in!
We chose a page from the book and between then they identified the colour as well as the various things to be seen on the page. We also counted what we could see and talked about size too. There is a lot to talk about with this book and the children spent a good while looking at each page as we came to it.
The children then moved onto finding the correct coloured pom poms to move into the cup or dish. Mr D was quite good at picking them up with the tweezers, Miss E less so but she did get there eventually with it. The tweezers are great for small hands and I think we will be using these a lot over the coming months.
They had great fun pouring over the book as well as playing in the tuff spot with the pom poms. I plan to do a similar activity with the patterns book, using patterned fabrics, papers and some of their toy animals. Not quite worked out the detail of that one yet, but a task for the next week or so.
The books are lovely. They’re lovely solid chunky board books which are perfect for smaller hands. They’re also ultra stylish as well as engaging for the children.
The children love these books (as do I) and we have a shelf dedicated to the Wide Eyed Editions imprint – I just need a few more to finish off our collection. We love books like these that we can pour over together and put to use in our everyday learning.
