Planning a (belated) Celebration Weekend Away

Planning a (belated) Celebration Weekend Away

This is a collaborative post

Back in November, Damian and I marked ten years of marriage. We had been saving to book a weekend away together, but then various things happened and we never quite got around to booking the time in.

This year is a milestone birthday for Damian, so we thought it might make sense to mark both his birthday and our ten-year wedding anniversary with a couple of nights away somewhere. We haven’t really managed to narrow down yet where we will head to but have had some initial ideas (helped by Vogue’s Top Ten best weekend breaks in the UK).

Oxford appeals to me; it isn’t a city I have visited before, and it’s somewhere I’d love to visit.  Obviously, it’s a city renowned for its University, but I also like the idea of the covered markets and taking a stroll there, as well as a river cruise to take in the sights. It strikes me as the sort of city that will have a good old fashioned book shop to choose a book (or two) and a pub with a roaring fire where we can just relax and enjoy the time and peace away from home.

One of my favourite places to visit, not too far from home, is The Forest of Bowland. When we first started dating, we had a drive out to here and a drive around the little hamlets and villages. It’s a truly beautiful place and I’d love to spend a bit more time there, walking and taking in the beautiful villages and nature. Dunsop Bridge and Whitewell are just picture perfect and so worth a visit.

I really like the idea of a spa break. It’s something we have never done, but it’s something I think we would both enjoy. Time to just totally relax and recharge. I think it’s only when you take a break and let yourself be looked after that you realise how full on life can be and how we rarely get time to sit and just ‘be’.

The other place on my list to head to is Chester. Remarkably we have never been to Chester together! It’s a city that is perfect for exploring and I think it might be the destination we find ourselves heading to. There’s a lot to see and do in Chester, and it has the benefit of being close to home, so we won’t spend too much time traveling!

Can you recommend anywhere else we should be looking at for a weekend away together?
