How to convert your loft into a nursery you won’t get tired of

Collaborative Post

Whether you’re expecting a new little arrival imminently, or you’re planning on welcoming another member of the family in the foreseeable, you’ll likely need to make more space in your home. But moving house isn’t the only option! Instead, converting your loft space can be so much cheaper and means you don’t have to relocate from your beautiful family home. Here’s how you can convert your loft into the cosiest nursery for your newest little one:

Add a new lick of paint

Like the other rooms in your house, the paint colour you choose for the nursery will set the atmosphere of the space. After you decide on a colour palette, head to your local DIY store to grab some testers to try on the walls. Remember to look for paint with a low VOC or no VOC to avoid emitting dangerous VOCs into the air.

Invest in some clever storage

While you might be able to fit all your new-born baby clothes into one handy drawer, you’re guaranteed to need more space when your child starts growing! Investing in some smart storage solutions like a fitted wardrobe for your loft will make it easier to store everything that the baby needs in the first few months and in the future as well.

Timeless furniture is key

When searching for furniture for your loft nursery, try and buy pieces that are child-friendly rather than childish. A neutral background with age-appropriate accessories will ensure you won’t need to redecorate every few years while deciding on a single focus for the nursery early on (like a distinct piece of furniture or some artwork) will help this space in your home remain perfectly timeless.

Pick a theme

As well as choosing a colour palette, picking a theme is essential when creating your loft nursery space. Choosing a theme that represents you as a couple is a great way to surround your new-born with your values and let them know exactly who their parents are. For example, if you’re both avid travellers, filling the nursery with an aeroplane mobile, a world map, and even photos of your favourite places abroad, will ensure your baby grows up with the same sort of wanderlust you both hold dear.

Avoid clutter where you can

It’s easy to go overboard with buying toys and teddies for your newborn, but the last thing you want when you’re carrying your baby back and forth in the dark of the night is a misplaced rattle on the floor! Keeping your nursery clutter-free will ensure you can use the space for the purpose you built it for, and help you find important items when you’re in a rush.
