I wrote some months ago about some fabulous books the children had been sent by the team at Priddy Books. One of the books was called Playtown – it is a superb book so I was excited when I saw the second in the series, PlayTown Airport, drop through the letter box a few weeks ago.
Mr D instantly picked up this book and dived straight into it. I think it is one of the best set of lift the flap books I have come across. The book itself is a larger than normal board book and follows the people of playtown as they head to the airport, go through check in and security and then onto the plane before arriving at their holiday resort.
Each section is a double page spread and has an array of things for readers to discover. Mr D and I have sat and read this together so many times, and each time he spots something new. This is a really comprehensive and well thought out book. I can imagine the process of sitting down to create this as the level of detail and explanation in it is superb.
We are fortunate to live close to Manchester airport and we often see the aeroplanes crossing above our house. Mr D knows that they are going to the airport and we sometimes like to go to the Runway Viewing Park to watch them land and take off (if you’re close to Manchester it is well worth a trip there).
The Playtown books are firm favourites here and I will be using the Airport one as part of our ‘things that go’ theme in the new year. I am also excited to see that there is a new one out – Construction, which I am sure will be a huge hit with Mr D.
I honestly can’t rate these books highly enough. They are packed with details and information and both Mr D and Miss E will sit quietly exploring the pages, pointing out the things they can see and making their own stories for the people they spot in the pages. They are full of colour and character and perfect for the pre-school age group.
