Egg Box Crafts

One of the unexpected benefits of Daniel becoming much more fluent in his reading is that he can now pick up activity books and choose what he wants to make, gather the items needed, and get on with, following the instructions as he goes.

He really enjoyed the Lego book we reviewed a month or two ago and he recently found the 51 things to make with Egg Boxes book. Over the last month, the children have made a range of things from the book, a fire engine, penguins, a fairy and a crab.

Such is their enthusiasm that I cannot keep up with them and have, today, bitten the bullet and ordered 30 empty egg boxes for them to get crafty with!

What I like about this book is that the things included are all achievable – sometimes books like this can look great but require far too much input from adults and, by the end of it, never quite look like they should do. All the things the children have attempted so far have come out well, and more importantly, they’ve had fun and been able to do it all pretty much on their own.
