This weekend the children and I were invited to a virtual crafting session with Viking Direct. Predictably, right now, our plans are limited so I thought it might be a fun way to spend the morning. The team at Viking sent us a box of items in preparation for the event and I was surprised at the range of products that they supply.
Who are Viking?
Viking are an office supplies store, but they also have a huge range of household items. This period has meant that people are at home more and schooling at home too. We Home Educate anyway and I often buy stationery supplies in bulk – I have a huge box full of pads, glue sticks, card etc. All the sort of things we seem to go through at a rate of knots! I’m no strange to bulk buying and it works out cheaper in the long run, as well as meaning that I never run out of things. When we have had friends round it’s been great to be able to provide enough glue sticks, paper, pens, scicssors etc.
Viking also sell office furniture such as desks, and seating (the folding desks look fab for being able to quickly create another work area for the children that can tidied away at the end of the day). And they also sell cleaning and catering supplies, so pretty much the whole kit and caboodle.
Our Crafty Package
A week before the event a box of goodies arrived including bubble wrap, pens, paper, tissue paper, loo roll, hand sanitiser, cleaning spray, cleaning cloths, glue sticks, packaging tape and more! I have to say I’m pretty crafty and used to creating all manner of bits and pieces, but I was intrigued as to how we were going to use these on our virtual craft morning.
The kids were desperate to get to the chocolate so I had to hide it all away!
The Craft Session
The craft session was fantastic. It was hosted by Viking ad run by Jane from Tea & Crafting. Jane had created three crafts for us to work through, and we soon set about cleaning the workspace and preparing the first craft – bubble wrap chocolate.
This was fantastic and something I’d never have thought to do myself. I’m definitely going to be repeating this when we look at bees again as I thought it made a nice edible representation of the inside of the hives. And melted Aero – delicious! Tastes fantastic!
Second was the fire breathing dragon. We only had one loo roll inner (despite us seemingly eating toilet rolls given how many we get through each week, I think I must have relegated all the inners to the outside recylcing bin). This was a fabulous and effective craft and all three children want to revisit this, once we have some more loo rolls! I think this will be a craft we will do for St George’s Day next year and possibly Chinese New Year too.
Finally, was the walking feet craft. This looks really good and is a great way to use up the inner from packaging tape. The children were getting a bit restless by this point but they did really well and were desperate to see if the chocolate bubble wrap had set (it had!)
Our Thoughts
We really loved taking part in this online event, and all three crafts were really good fun. The fire breathing dragon was a big hit and the bubble wrap chocolate was ingenious! The walking feet too was a lot of fun and it’s given me some great ideas for how we can do some more simple crafts in the future, and I think it’s given the older two some ideas for what they can do without my assistance. Learning more about Viking and the wide range of products that they offer was great as well, and when I’m next due to stock up on pens, pencils and paper (which will be soon I am sure) they’ll be one I am checking out.
