Four Ideas for Family Fun this Summer

Ad

It’s been so lovely to have the better weather over the last few weeks and how nice it has been to enjoy walks with friends and (fully risk assessed and covid compliant) outdoor sessions with friends. It’s certainly been much longed for and enjoyed.

Lockdown has been long, and I know from conversations with friends many of us are wary about the changes continuing and being back to normal this summer. I think we all expect an element of social restrictions. I thought I’d give you some ideas of at-home summer family fun for the months ahead.

Family Walks

I know we have all done plenty of local walks in the last year, but now we can go further afield why not each select a place to head to and make a day trip there? I love getting out and exploring with the children and it’s a great thing to do as a family together.

Use the opportunity to treat yourself to some new walking shoes or some new clothes such as these co-ord sets. They are a bit of a staple in many wardrobes right now; mine included! Co-ord sets are great for zoom meets at home (and we still have plenty of these going on at the moment) as well as for wearing when out and about.

Co-ordinating sets are a bit of a staple of mine, I have them in grey and navy blue and I like that as well as wearing as a set I can mix and match them too to offer a slightly different look. They’re also super comfortable and their comfort and versatility help a lot when being active with the children.

The co-ord sets are also able to be dressed up a little too so if you happen across a quiet spot to grab a bite to eat or a drink, you won’t feel too dressed down.

Have a film afternoon

I think it’s fair to say that the Great British weather means that we are likely to have a couple of grey summer days. Why not plan a family film afternoon? Throw on the comfy loungewear I’m all about grey loungewear at the moment – and get snuggled up on the sofa.

I’m a big fan of oversized hoodies and I am often seen ‘borrowing’ my husband’s sweaters. Loungewear is the ultimate in comfort and works well for those muddy walks down the canal as well as those days when you want to snuggle up and watch a film – comfort is key. There’s also a lot of really stylish loungewear available too with off-the-shoulder jumpers to add something a little different to your look.

Kids love getting snuggled on the sofa so maybe have a few film choices written down and placed in a jar and take turns to pick one. Grab some pick n mix or popcorn and sit back and enjoy.

Re-create a festival at home

Whilst festivals and large-scale gatherings and days out are unlikely to be commonplace this summer, you can recreate a festival at home. Get yourself kitted out in festival outfits and choose a theme for your day. You could have a circus skills festival, a food festival or even a chocolate book festival (My idea of heaven!) whatever you choose it’s sure to be fun and provide a fun weekend for all the family.

You could make the European football championships with a football-themed festival at home or look towards the Olympics? At home festivals are great fun and you could even get friends and family to join in via zoom and each take turns to run a themed game or quiz or each set a fun challenge. Whatever you do it will prove to be a fun and memorable weekend for everyone involved.

Have a film and crafternoon

Why not ask your kids what they’d like to do and have a themed film and crafternoon? We have had a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory day which was lots of fun, and have had themed days for lots of things over the last year. Why not choose another country to learn about and eat meals as they would learn about their traditions and make some crafts in keeping with their culture? This is a lot of fun and could even be combined with a film or festival day. Perhaps choose Mexico and watch Coco or choose Australia and have an Australian-themed festival day?

Then, at the end of the day throw on the comfy clothes and get snuggled up together underneath a blanket to watch a film together. Perfect memory-making.
