I can scarcely believe we are almost into September – where has the time gone?! There has been a definite change in the air in the last week and it’s starting to feel more like autumn than it is summer. Of course, autumn is very close to us now, and we have been seeing the signs of change as we have been out and about in recent days.
I love autumn for getting out with the kids – the air always feels much fresher and there is an unrivaled joy when stomping around in boots in leaves and mud. Hunting for conkers is a favourite of ours and we love to see how many we can gather. I love to watch the changing leaves and we never fail to delight in their beautiful colours.
We have already gathered blackberries this year – enough to make three crumbles so far. A large tub is a companion for most walks these days when there might be a chance of finding more to bring home with us.
There has also been a marked change in the weather this last week. It feels like the days can be much more changeable and we have been making sure we have coats and jackets with us on our trips out, not wanting to risk being caught in a downpour. This week I have been wearing my new Regatta jacket.
I opted for a waterproof women’s jacket as, being in the North of England, means I see more than my fair share of wet weather! A good jacket is really important for me, especially in the autumn as I don’t want the rain to be a reason we stay in rather than heading outdoors into the fresh air.
I chose the Myla Waterproof Insulated jacket and I’m really impressed. I sized up to allow for a jumper underneath and it fits well. It’s made from hydrafort fabric and when I got caught in a rain shower over the weekend I was left warm and dry. It has a hood with a faux fur trim (which is removable if you prefer it without) and it’s a great jacket, and the sort I would have bought back when I was commuting to work on the train – perfect for those cold mornings waiting at the station.

A big plus for me is that it has plenty of pockets – I like to be able to have my phone, keys, mask and money on me and I prefer not carrying a bag sometimes. The pockets at the front are big enough to hold my large phone as well as keys etc and they have a zip, which means I’m not worrying about something falling out.
There’s also an inside pocket which is perfect for cash or a bank card. I’m looking forward to getting the hat, scarf and gloves out of the loft and adding some colour on our autumnal walks – and this lovely coat from Regatta will be perfect to keep me warm and dry.
I think this year will be the year I upgrade my walking boots. I need some new ones as my others are looking a bit tired now after a decade(!) of use – they’ll probably get me through to the winter by which stage I think I’m going to need a new pair, or else stay in wellies for a time!
Thank you to Regatta for gifting this coat to me in exchange for this post.

no such thing as the wrong weather just the wrong gear – looks like a wise choice
