Dream Cruise Destinations

Over the weekend I was talking with friends about plans for next year and potential trips away and we got to talking about some of our favourite holidays in the past.

One friend mentioned that they’d been on a short cruise and had enjoyed it much more than they’d expected. I’ll admit that cruises haven’t been something I’ve ever thought about doing myself, but I can certainly see the appeal. After we got talking we started to look at the wide range of places you can head to on cruises and I picked my top three dream destinations for a cruise, if the opportunity ever came up for us to go on one. If cruises are something you’re thinking about that Ambassador Cruise Line has a great selection of deals to suit pretty much everyone.

But, for now, here are my top three destinations that could tempt me on a cruise.

The Baltic

Back in 2005 we did a fair few tips over the Eastern Europe and the Baltic states and I fell in love with those area of Europe. We had a fabulous time in Russia and the experience there is one that really shaped my world view. St Petersburg was just stunning and Moscow was fascinating. We later headed out to Riga in the December to celebrate my birthday and it was just wonderful. Such a beautiful city and one I’d love to re-visit. We did have some tentative plans to get to Tallinn in Estonia, but we didn’t seem to get round to that with one thing and another, but perhaps in the future. A cruise to the Baltic would be a great way to re-visit some past destinations as well as some new ones. Eastern Europe holds a special place in my heart and I hope to explore the region again one day.

Northern Lights

Of course, a cruise to see the Northern Lights surely has to be up there for many people? Heading up to the very North of the UK and then over to Reykjavik in Iceland would be superb. Seeing the changing scenery alone would be superb and exciting but the chance to see the amazing Northern Lights would be the icing on the cake. This would also have the benefit of being a shortish cruise and might be a good one to try for that first cruise experience. If you were to couple with a longer trip away and opted to spend a longer amount of time in Iceland then looking to rent a 4×4 vehicle could be another great way to see the iconic Northern Lights.

Iceland is a country that has long fascinated me and the Northern Lights is such a beautiful phenomenon that it would be truly mesmerizing to witness that firsthand. I also like the added historical links in potential stops such as Kirkwall and seeing some of the real histories of the Vikings and other ancient crafts and traditions come to life.

Winter Sun?

At this time of year when sunny days are few and far between and, even if there is sun, it’s still cold, a cruise to chase some winter sun does sound appealing!  I think a longer winter sun cruise might appeal to me in a few years when the children are much older. Heading over to Cuba and the Caribbean as the UK descends into winter does sound appealing! I’m not sure how I’d cope with such a long time at sea, but I think the pay off of time in Havana and Montego Bay might make up for it.

If a Caribbean cruise sounds a bit too much then there are options to head down to the Canary Islands and Madeira to chase some winter sun. I think this sort of shorter cruise might be more suited to us at the moment and maybe much later on we do the longer Caribbean cruise.
