I think most people will be familiar with the ‘Where’s Wally’ books. These were books that I loved working through when I was younger and I think I had most of the books. I was thrilled when the team at QED recently sent me a copy of their new ‘Spot the…’ book, Spot the Bird on the Building Site.
I’ve not seen this series of books before but it essentially works on the same idea as Where’s Wally. Each scene has a pigeon which you need to find as well as few other items to hunt out too. It’s aimed at ages four plus. Mr D isn’t yet three but he really enjoys this book. When I showed him the bundle of books we had been sent this was the first one he reached for.
Like most children, he is really into diggers and tractors at the moment and what I really liked about the book was that it took real life settings so for example a range of different building sites (including one which is based in London so it was easy to pick out some of the landmarks). There is a lot of information that is included in the books such as facts and the such which will appeal to slightly older readers too. Any book likes this is a treasure trove of things to explore and discuss with your child. We have talked about a few of the pages and the things that D can see as he searches out the bird and the other items on the list to look for.
I am so impressed with this book that I have bought Spot the Snail in the Garden and I can’t wait to give it to him for his birthday in October. These books are brilliant as there are so many things to do and it encourages a number of early learning opportunities such as counting, shapes, colour and understanding and exploring the world around us.
There is a vine here of the inside of the book that shows it off a bit more.
I am thrilled (and supremely jealous!!) that the team at QED are offering one of my readers the chance to win a FULL SET of these wonderful books. (See here for more info) They are brilliant and are sure to entertain children for hours on end.
