It’s been a rather bookish week with World Book Day and the posts I shared yesterday, so I am thrilled to be the final stop in the Little Deer and the Dragon Book Tour. Let me start by saying we were gifted this book by the publisher (hence the ad marking) and my full disclosure policy can be found here.

All about the book

Little Deer and the Dragon is the second in the Willow Tree Wood Adventure and we LOVED the first one, so I knew the children would be super excited when the second arrived. I was right!

The book is set in Willow Tree Wood, a place where there seems to be magic just about everywhere … if you know where to look. Molly and Tom visit the wood to stay with their Grandma and soon find themselves in adventures beyond their wildest dreams.

In this second instalment in the series, Molly and Tom discover a baby deer left all on its own. With the help of a small dragon, a magic potion and a special wish readers will soon see if the Willow Tree Wood magic is strong enough to save the day.

What we Like

Daniel reads through these books pretty quickly now and he tells me he really likes the woods and the little dragon seemed friendly. Em takes a little longer to read the story and these books are perfect for emerging reader. I find it’s a tricky phase when they’re confident enough to read alone, but the comprehension isn’t quite there yet.

This book has really engaging characters, lovely cute animals and magical creatures. What I really like as a parent is the book review at the end. We make a copy of this so both children can complete it. I like that it tests what the children have read and it acts as a great discussion point for us. Next week we are going to have a go at designing our own front cover for a future WIllow Tree Wood title that we are going to write.
