Designing A Trip-Free Home To Keep Your Child Safe

Collaborative Post

Kids have so much energy and once they start walking, it won’t be long before they’re running around all over the place. As a parent, it’s important that you keep them safe and design your home in a way that prevents accidents. Trips and falls are one of the most common ways that kids get injured in the home. The good news is, with a few simple design changes, you can keep them safe. Here’s how to create a trip-free home for your kids.

Better Flooring

Better flooring with more grip can help to prevent any accidents. Tile floors are extremely slip resistant so they’ll go a long way in preventing any slips and falls. Epoxy flooring is also a great option because it’s slip-resistant and it’s very low maintenance. Professional epoxy flooring experts can install a durable floor in your home, which will keep your children safe. You also need to be careful with rugs on certain flooring types because they can slide around. Use small adhesive pads to stick rugs down so they don’t shift when your children run over them.

Remove Clutter

Clutter is another issue that can cause kids to fall. They can trip and fall over small objects like toys or furniture, so make sure you keep the floor clear of any clutter. Junk tends to accumulate around kids’ rooms most commonly because they’re still learning how to clean up after themselves. Encourage them to help with tidying up their own room by setting up a small toy organization system where they can put their toys away.

Safety Gates On The Stairs

If you have stairs in your home, then installing a safety gate at the top and bottom is a great way to prevent kids from going up or down alone. These gates can be removed when they’ve gotten older but for now, this will keep them safe. Make sure the gate fits snuggly against the wall so that it doesn’t become dislodged if your kids run into it. Make sure that you always keep the stair gates closed when you are going up and down and check that they are locked.

Window Guards

Kids like to climb around and explore, so you need to protect the windows. If they get up onto the windowsills, there is a danger that they can fall out and seriously injure themselves. Installing window guards is a great way to keep your kids safe because they’re transparent so they won’t interfere with the views. If you’re not sure how to choose the right one then look for safety bars that allow for ventilation, too. The window guard will cover the bottom portion of the window so your child is unable to fall out.

It’s always important to keep an eye on your children but you won’t be able to watch them 24/7. You can’t prevent them from exploring but you can help to protect them by designing your home properly. With these simple changes, you can prevent slips and falls and keep your child safe.
