October through to December is a really busy time for us with parties and when David Charles got in touch with us to ask if Emma would like to choose one of their new autumn/winter dresses I jumped at the chance.
Whilst I’ve never been one to make her into a girly girl she is definitely a little girl who enjoys wearing dresses and putting on special party dresses for occasions.
When I was a little girl I had plenty of dresses, but I remember one that was purple. It had a velvety body and a metallic purple skirt. I loved it and I knew it was a party when I got to wear that dress. When Emma was looking through the selection of special occasion dresses I was quite pleased that she chose one that reminded me of my own childhood dress.
The dress Emma chose was called the ‘Red Waterfall Party Gown’ and, like the dress I remember from my own childhood this one has a velvety body and a large skirt – perfect for twirling in!
David Charles produce are well known for creating really luxurious dresses and when the dress arrived she was very excited to see the box addressed to her with her new dress inside. The dress was well packaged in a sturdy box, and beautifully wrapped in paper. She loved opening it all up to reveal her new dress.
You can tell the quality of the dress as it has a nice weight to it, from the layers of fabric and the velvet of the body of the dress is thick and very very soft and the back of the dress has a concealed zip fastening. The dress Emma chose is well constructed and the skirt has layers of soft tulle fabric, layered in a waterfall effect to create a lovely full-bodied skirt.
I like that this dress has full-length sleeves – perfect for the colder winter parties that we are going to and Emma, in particular, loves the little brooch on the hip of the dress – it’s a cute little accessory that adds a bit of sparkle to the outfit. This dress if a bold red colour and I really love the selection of dresses that David Charles have as so many of them are brighter colours and patterns.
This dress of Emma’s is a real quality item, that has the feel and finish of a well-made dress that I am sure will see her through the parties we have in the lead up to Christmas. She calls it her ‘Princess Dress’ and I know it will be one of the dresses she remembers when, like me, she remembers the party dresses of her childhood.

Wow, this truly is stunning. My daughter will be 5 in December so would get plenty of wear out of a gorgeous party dress for both birthday and Christmas celebrations. With a new baby sister on the way in January I’d love for her to feel extra special this festive season! She is what’s known as a “highly sensitive child” so feels things much more acutely than most. Including how clothes feel next to her skin. This means that most “fancy dress” or “party dresses” from the high street are scratchy and uncomfortable for her to wear. The soft tulle and designs of David Charles might just be the perfect match for my little lady xx
The dress is beautiful! I liked to dress as ballerinas when I was little but my daughter loves princess dresses, she loves the make believe element of it
So lovely. Mine too was velvety with a big skirt. It was a deep blue with lace and I always had to wear my special sparkly tights.

I remember a dress when I was younger; a hand-me-down from my older sisters. It had a black velvet body and puffy, purple tulle sleeves and skirt. Sounds horrible now, but I loved it.
I also remember when I hated dresses – a self declared “tomboy” – and crying for a two hour car journey to a wedding in Oxfordshire because my Mum made me wear a dress!
I dont remember many dresses, i had hand me downs from my cousin’s who were boys, i do remember designing a dress from a old one my nan gave me, i cut it to size and added buttons
When I was very young I had a lovely red velvet party dress with a white collar and trim and I wore a pair of sparkly red ‘Dorothy’ shoes with it! I have seen photos in my parents photo albums and I looked cute!
My favourite party dress was a gorgeous navy blue – I just thought I was gorgeous with my sparkly blue shoes too x

Me and my sister used to have matching flowery dresses, with matching dresses that came out for parties. Very dated now though
i was a rather difficult girl and refused to wear dresses, but this pone i loved it was white with blue stripes at the waist, the skitrt was ruffled and had blue spots, i literally wore it til it had holes
I had a lovely blue velvet dress with matching head band, I felt like a princess in that outfit…
My favourite childhood party dress was a little red tartan dress and it had a black velvet collar and I had a scottie dog bag to go with it. Loved it and have always tried to find my daughter a similar one.x
Dressing up as a policeman when i was around 5/6 n sending people to jail!

I remember being in a carnival once and everyone on my float were dressed as clowns. I did not look good as a clown. The big red nose clashed with my big red cheeks

My aunty was married to a man from India and thy brought me a beautiful red and gold sari when I was 5 after they had been visiting his family. I loved it so much I wore it to parties until I was about 9 and it got too small. It had all these little reflective mirrors and sequins on it and jingled when I spun in it
I remember a red satin dress with with a peter pan collar & big bow that was a darker red velvet & white tights!
I was obsessed with pink and being the 80’s I remember wearing a pink frilly skirt with a sparkly pink top for the school disco when I was about 8
