Ad – Gifted Item
We were recently sent a package containing two lots of Kid K’Nex. K’Nex isn’t something that we have ever used before; I’m not sure why I think other construction type toys have been bought for them and so we haven’t ever really explored it. I wish we had discovered it sooner!
What is Kid K’Nex?
K’Nex is a fabulous open-ended construction toy. It has all manner of pieces such as rods, connectors and the kid one that we have been sent came with eyes and feet. It’s a brilliant way to create 3D models and whilst it gives you some ideas of what to build in the accompanying guidance, it’s open-ended. This means there are endless possibilities for what your children might build.
Kid K’Nex is aimed at younger children (3-6 years) and we were sent the Safari Mates pack and a Budding Builders Set.
The Safari Mates set has 21 pieces, all of which are perfect for little hands to build with. There are five building ideas but plenty you can do with a bit of imagination! The budding builder set comes in its own storage box (perfect!) and contains 100 parts along with a large sheet of 50 ideas of things to build. There are eyes, feet, hands and ears for building all manner of things.
What Did the Children Think?
The children really enjoyed this. All three of them (aged 7, 6 and 4) really got into it, and it was a lovely moment of them all working together to find the pieces and build the various creatures. I find that with some other construction toys, they don’t always span the age gap well between my three children, but Kid K’nex really did. It was lovely to see them working together to build the various creatures.
H, in particular, has really enjoyed this, which I would expect as he is the youngest) and he has been busy building all sorts of things. He likes building the wand and some of the smaller items such as a bat and has been busy getting to grips with the flexible rods to build some of the other bits and pieces such as the snail.
What do I think of Kid K’Nex
I have to say, I am hugely impressed with Kid K’Nex. It’s captivated the imagination of the boys in particular, and it’s nice to find something they can play with together. I like the creative element of it and the soft bendable pieces means that there are lots of possibilities to build all manner of things with this. I like that the different lengths on the rods are marked by colour. This means that H can spot that he needs a red rod, and know it will be the correct length. I like that the pieces fit together really easily and well, making it easy for little hands to manipulate the pieces.
I’m definitely going to look into Kid K’Nex as future birthday and Christmas gifts for the children and H has asked for the set with wheels, which will open up even more designs for them to master. The pieces are compatible across the kits and the storage box that came with our budding builder set is robust enough to hold all the bits and pieces we have so far. It also tidies away neatly and keeps all the pieces together.
I really like the open-ended nature of this toy and the STEM possibilities.
