Collaborative Post
In the past, mums made do with a swaddling cloth and perhaps a bottle when required. But today there’s no need to deprive yourself after the birth of your child. There are all sorts of helpful items out there that can make your experience of the fourth trimester considerably more enjoyable.
Baby Carrier
If you want to, you can carry your child around in your arms all the time. However, as anyone who has tried it will tell you, it can get a little exhausting after a while. Not only is it tough physical work, but babies have a tendency to cry the moment you put them down.
To avoid this, get a baby carrier. These are helpful marsupial-style pouches that fit over the front of our body, providing ample space for your baby. What’s more, they’re extremely affordable too and specifically designed to take the pressure off your back.
Nipple Cream
For the first couple of days, breastfeeding feels relatively comfortable. However, after a month or so, your nipples can be chapped, cracked and red raw.
To prevent this, it’s a good idea to use nipple cream. Most products on the market contain only natural products that will not harm either you or your baby. Just rub the cream on your nipples when you finish breastfeeding.
Baby Changing Facilities
Baby changing mats are one of those items that new mothers often overlook. However, as you might imagine, they are absolutely essential. The alternative is to change your baby on a cloth (which will require washing) or directly on surfaces around your home, which isn’t particularly hygienic.
Most baby changing mats are easy to wash down and store. Plus, they last a long time, meaning that you can use them for each new baby you have over time.
Happy Baby Books
Babies can be high maintenance, sometimes. It’s not their fault, of course: they’re just getting used to what it means to be a human being. But it is also exhausting.
That’s why it’s often a good idea to buy a happy baby book. These are great because they tell you exactly what you need to do to keep your child content, both during the day and at night. Books can help babies sleep longer, cry less and experience fewer temper tantrums.
Breast Pump
Babies want to feed all the time. Unfortunately, that can become quite uncomfortable after a while, as we discussed above.
The good news is that breast pumps can help. These pump milk out of your breasts into bottles which you can then feed to your baby later when they start crying for milk.
Breast Pads
When your hormones are raging after the birth of your child, it can be difficult to prevent your breasts from expressing. If you’re not careful, you can wind up with two wet patches over each breast while milk is flowing out.
To prevent this, you’ll want to insert absorbable breast pads under your bra. These prevent accidents and come in handy when you want to go out.
