Random Acts of Kindness During Lockdown

When Lockdown was first announced my social feeds were full of positivity; talk of embracing this period and slowing down, time with family and just people generally trying to find the positives in the situation. Damian and I thought that week 3/4 would be when things would change; when children realised this was the new normal and when the realities of the situation would begin to be felt.

I wanted to let friends know I’ve been thinking of them, and we’ve been checking in on each other regularly. Just chatting and generally asking how we all are.

But I wanted to try and think of ways to I could raise a smile and create something unexpected in a time that most of us are struggling with the mundane reality of life in lockdown.

My three are always excited to see what the postman brings, so I thought that I’d send some love through the post. I spent a bit of time researching gifts for friends and had them queued up ready to buy when, co-incidentally, Moonpig got in touch to ask me to be part of their Let Happiness Bloom Campaign. It felt very serendipitous so I knew this was a good campaign to be involved in.

Letting people know you care

Letting people know you care is as simple as dropping them a message and checking in. Just knowing someone is thinking about you is a lift to the spirits.

You can also let friends know you want to help. If they have a business then support them by sharing posts, hitting the like button and just generally engaging with their posts to help their social reach. Staying chatty online and interacting will really help keep their business visible and might help to alleviate some stress.

Sending messages to check in on them and just being there is a really nice thing to do. Be honest as well! Don’t pretend life right now is easy as it really isn’t as it might help everyone be more honest with each other if we all admit we are struggling at times.

Send a gift

As I mentioned, I wanted to send some small gifts to people to hopefully raise a smile. Moonpig asked me to nominate two people to send a bouquet to and I knew straight away my mother-in-law and my lovely friend Tracey, would love to receive one of these and it was something I had already earmarked to buy. I then purchased a few other small gifts for friends including chocolate, bear hug mug and tea, gin and craft kits.

It’s been lovely reading the thank-you messages as the gifts arrived and I hope that they raised a smile. The Moonpig flowers are beautiful and I know as the Orchid I have begins to flower more it’s a sign of optimism and hope that things might improve for the better soon.

Why Flowers?

I always think flowers are a fantastic gift to send, and it’s something I always think of as a bit of an indulgence to have a beautiful bouquet arrive. It’ is, for me at least, a rare treat to have a beautiful bouquet arrive in the post and Moonpig has lots of different bouquets to choose from, and all delivered straight to the recipient’s door. Flowers always add freshness and colour I think, and are such a cheerful gift to receive. Moonpig are offering 25% off any order over £25 made via their app using the code APP25BLOOM

Keeping in touch

Keeping in touch with friends is really important, but also quite difficult! There’s not much happening in life right now, so it can sometimes make the usual conversations difficult. However, arranging a video chat with friends helps if you can see them as well as a quiz. There is the weekly virtual pub quiz that we have been comparing scores with friends on. Also taking part in things such as growing sunflowers and seeing how high they get or sharing a favourite recipe.

Have you been keeping in touch with friends and family, and have you had to find new and innovative ways to let people know you’re thinking of them?
