Buy a Book Day

Buy a Book Day

Today marks Buy a Book Day so I wanted to share some of my top suggestions and books that are on my own (and the children’s!) ‘to buy’ lists.

top suggestions for books to buy in honour of buy a book day

The Busy People Series (QED Publishing) – these are SUPERB books. I’ve written about them before but they really are excellent. We need the Doctor and Police Officer one to complete our set and they are on the must buy list for Mr D’s birthday next month.

The Complete Grimm’s Fairy Tales and The Fairy Tales and Stories of Hans Christian Andersen (Knickerbocker Classics) look like beautiful books and they’re on my own personal birthday and Christmas wish list. I love these original stories. I have bought the children a young set each for Christmas and they are slightly watered down from the originals, so I would quite like a nice set for myself which I can share with the children in due course.

Mad About Monkeys by Owen Davey (Flying Eye Books) has long been on the buy list for Mr D. I’ve seen it in a shop for it looks wonderful and would suit my monkey mad little boy!

I saw The Mara by Anup Shah (Natural History Museum) included on a press release last week and it looks gorgeous – just the sort of book I could pore over with the children. We are currently looking at the rainforest but I know Miss E is keen to learn about Lions next so I’ll have to dig out some of my photography style books for her to look at.

Finally – some books from my favourite publisher – Wide Eyed Editions. There are so many fab books that they’re published that I just have to share the ones that I haven’t yet added to my (extensive!) collection. Yes I really do have a whole shelf dedicated to this publishers works!

Atlas of Animal Adventures, The Curiositree The Wonder Garden and Day of the Dinosaurs are firmly in my want want want list – they look beautiful and will inspire so much in the children.

I didn’t know that there was a ‘Buy a Book Day’ which is probably just as well as we have so many already! If I had known I would have bought the new Mango and Bambang story by Polly Faber and Clara Vulliamy.
