Another month has ticked by and another month to appraise where we are up to and what our next plans are.
Longer Projects
Our main project during April will be our Ancient Greece project. We started this in March and we are all really enjoying it, I plan to take the rest of April on this one and really do quite a bit on it. Other longer projects will include a rivers and canals project. We had a talk from the Canal and River Trust last month and that has inspired some additional learning about the canals and I want to tie this in to a rivers project as well. I haven’t planned/structured this one yet but I think we will pick this up towards the second half of the month.
Themed Studies
Our artist and composer studies will continue in April with Banksy, Bridget Riley and Paul Klee I’m really enjoying these and the children are too. There’s a lot to cover with the artists and it’s been really interesting for me to research them and learn more. It’s also great for them to start to see the links between different artists and movements and how they influence each other.
Composers work is continuing and we have the sessions booked in with the Cardiff Violin Teacher which we are enjoying.
We have another poet study in April, Shakespeare, and I’m planning a short study on him as well towards the end of the month.
Finally, I want to do something on sharks to tie into two books we are enjoying at the moment. Again, I haven’t quite got that planned out but I’m working on it.
One-Off Sessions
I have purposely left April quite light on sessions and I anticipate the weather improving and restrictions are due to ease, which means we should be able to meet with friends. We have some tentative plans in for some outdoor sessions which I am looking forward to. We do have out speaking and listening group planned in as well as a History project fair and a zoom session arranged with Lapworth Museum.
There will, of course, be some other bits picked up across the month and, hopefully, lots of time out on the canal and beyond to enjoy and observe the changing seasons. The children are keen to spot the first ducklings of the year!

Excellent. It will soon be duckling time.
