We are now in a new decade, and with that a new year. We can all get motivated at this time of year especially. Setting goals and new year’s resolutions. But, not all of us are keen on the idea of setting such a strict set of guidelines on how we want our year to go. Resolutions can easily be broken as many of us can set too many or put far too much pressure on ourselves to succeed. Goals can be an alternative way to achieve things, but today it is all about the aspirations and intentions that you may have for your children this year. If you are wondering what you could be focusing on then here are some suggestions.
Education, home or in school
Education can often be a big focus for many parents, and whether you home educate or send your child to school, you will always want them to get the most out of their day, their classes and what they learn. Education may not be something that you have huge control over, especially if your child attends school, but you can encourage and make suggestions such as trips for school classes that they can take or even volunteering in the school yourself. Home education is a little different, as you can plan to some degree the lessons and also take the lead of your child’s interests. But maybe this is the year that you make education for your children a high priority in your life.
Travel as a family
Maybe you want to travel more as a family. There is educational value for doing this, such as experiencing new cultures, tastes, sounds and experiences. But as a family, it also gives you the opportunity to enjoy each others company and really get the chance to spend quality time together. Whether you want to make your annual holiday extra special this year, or try and book smaller breaks that will be equally as fun, travel could be a big priority for you as a family this year.
Making the most out of weekends
Many parents work five days a week, and so the weekends where you are present and there are no other commitments like education, errands and work can become very important. While you may want to use the opportunity to to recharge your own batteries why not set the intention of making more of your weekends this year. Even if you decide to try and do one thing each weekend be a walk in the country or visiting a local museum, that small amount of time can make a big difference to your family life.
Capturing more ordinary moments
Finally, children grow up so fast and while we are aware of this it is also important to try and capture it as much as possible. Get your camera out and snap the ordinary moments, use your phone for a selfie and be present in the picture with your kids. Make it your goal to capture the year, the good and adventurous stuff as well as the mundane and boring. These are the things that you will look back on.
Let’s hope these tips help you when it comes to making intentions and aspirations for your children this year.
