There is no denying that we have been navigating unknown territory for almost twelve months now. The covid-19 outbreak has seen people work from home, have to homeschool their children when it wasn’t even a decision they wanted to make or on the agenda. They have had to stay at home and change their routines dramatically, and while we are still working our way through it, many parents will agree that their children are at the forefront of their worries right now. So what are these common worries that we are all having? Hopefully sharing some below will reassure you that while we are not all in the same boat we are certainly navigating the same storm.

Health concerns

One of the first things that you might be worried about is, of course, their health. Covid-19 is a huge concern for people right now and we can all worry for the health of our children. But it can be more than that, and one thing that could be affected by all of this is their mental health. Not being able to socialise as they would normally. Not going out or seeing places they would normally frequent. Having to stay at home more frequently. These are all things that not only affect physical health but can have a big strain on their mental health. Being aware of this can help you to help your children cope with these strange times.

School

There will be a lot of worries about school right now and while homeschooling might have been something we have already had and continue to have experience in, it won’t have been something that many parents wanted or even considered doing. But yet now not having a choice. School is one of those things that will worry you, especially with big gaps in education. However, rest assured that all teaching professionals will understand that there will be big catch up to consider and also as parents you will be doing the best you can. There are so many resources including software for teachers to instruct in-classroom and online that could help improve your experience with it.

Their development

Another thing you may be worried about is the development of your children. Especially if you had a baby during the pandemic or before. In your mind they may be missing out on social interaction and playdates, baby groups and soft play centres. There is a lot that they may be missing out on, and the gaps in education might be a worry for older children. Of course, this is something that we have to accept, but you should feel assured that you will be doing all that you can and children are resilient and will bounce back.

Let’s not forget our mindset and reactions

Last of all, we also have to take a moment for our own mindsets and how we feel. These are strange times and so if you are in the best possible head space you can be in then you will be in the best possible place to help your children through it.

Let’s hope these tips help you when it comes to the worries you may have for your kids during the pandemic.
