As busy parents, it normally means we’re feeling a certain level of tiredness. We all feel a certain level of physical or mental exhaustion, but we have no choice but to carry on. But is there anything that we can all do to ensure that we keep those energy levels up?
Eat Well, but Do It Regularly
This sounds like such a cliche, but it is so important that when you are trying to fight exhaustion, eating healthily is not just about physical fitness but about keeping your energy levels up and ensuring your brain is working at full capacity. Because we all know the temptation of unhealthy snacks and fast food is always going to be there and this is a recipe for disaster. So we have to understand that eating the right amount of calories, but also the right types of food is crucial.
When there are children that don’t sleep ever and you need to keep track of them constantly, actually trying to get food in is difficult, but this is where protein shakes such as those provided by Growli can make a big difference. Having the right nutrients, whether it’s a small dosage of fat or protein, can give you that little bit of short-term motivation, just make sure it’s the right stuff!
Remember the Sleep Hygiene
Being a busy parent means that you are just not going to get as much sleep as you need, so you will feel tired more often than not. This is why sleep hygiene is so important because quality rest is the name of the game. Incorporating some of the following will make a big difference:
- Allowing some time to wind down.
- Reduce your alcohol and caffeine consumption in the few hours leading up to bedtime.
- Focus on reducing your stress.
- Get off your devices!
This last point is something that we’re all guilty of doing. We can’t help but look at what everybody else is doing out there, especially those with kids of the same age. But that blue light when you’re trying to sleep means you’re not getting the quality sleep you need.
Reassess Your Sleep Schedule
We know that kids need routines so they will go to bed better and fall asleep quicker. But this may take a while to embed. If you don’t have any sleep routine you’ve got to start one right away, but you need to make sure you work it around when your child sleeps best.
While you might be trying to get them to sleep earlier so you can have part of the evening to yourself, the fact is that you can’t fight it during the early years. The routine needs to be the same thing constantly, and you may find that certain habits really do translate to an amazing sleep. If you have a school-age child, mindfulness and meditation can make a big difference.
It is one of the most difficult things to do, but when your child doesn’t sleep, you’ve got to tell yourself that it’s not going to be like this forever. Your mindset will make a big difference!
