Lego seems to be one of the gifts that all three children have asked for this year – H is very much still into his Duplo, but he’s moving to enjoy playing with his sibling’s lego too. Very recently sent us two of the Lego Friends sets to review, LEGO 41339 Friends Mia’s Camper Van LEGO 41339 Friends Mia’s Camper Van and LEGO 41328 Friends Stephanie’s Bedroom. Both sets are aimed at 6+ but Emma managed these quite well (she’s almost six).
We have only made up the bedroom set so far – the Camper Van is a much bigger undertaking and we haven’t had time yet to get to it! Like all Lego sets the box clearly shows what the set will make and includes all the bits you need as well as the instructions and set of stickers.

We emptied the three bags first of all and Em set about making up the character, Stephanie. I then left her up to it and she managed to make the room up herself, only needing a little bit of help with the ‘hinge’ bit as she wasn’t sure how it went.
Lego is such a great toy for developing confidence in children as they follow the guide on their own to make it up. My older two are always so thrilled when they manage to make up the kits on their own.

I’ve not come across the Lego Friends kits before but I was impressed that this one showed the character to be sporty (there’s a hockey stick hanging on the door) as well as being a bit girly (space for her handbag and hairbrush). It doesn’t overly pander to either gender stereotypes and is therefore much more representative of real-life children.
The Stephanie’s Bedroom kit took her around an hour to do and it’s quite a nice little kit, with plenty of opportunities to add to it with the children’s own ideas.
The Camper Van set looks fab and there is a LOT of lego in it! This will be one that we might tackle this week at the dining room table as I suspect we might need to sort the pieces first into some sort of order. I also think it might take more than one sitting to do all this one as I think Emma will find it a bit harder – it might be a task for Daddy to help her with!
We will definitely lookout for more of the Lego friends sets – especially as there is a character called Emma in there!
