How To Keep Your Home Tidy When You Home Educate

Collaborative Post

It’s challenging enough to enter in the world of home education, but adding housework to the mix can feel overwhelming. Read up on these tried-and-true methods for maintaining a clean home and incorporate them into your routines around the house and in the classroom. If you can change the way you spend your home-schooling day right now, you can make it more productive and less demanding.

Involve Your Children In The Housework

If you have housework to do and children to educate or at least supervise, it’s hard. But what if you could encourage your children to help you clean and take care of the house? This could solve a lot of problems and ensure that your home is neat, tidy, and clean at all times (or at least most of the time).

Firstly, asking children to help out around the home gives them a sense of ownership and teaches them responsibilities, which is excellent. They’ll also learn about important life skills. Next, you can use these moments to teach them more – you could turn washing up into a physics lesson, or sorting laundry into a maths lesson, for example.

Have Plenty Of Storage

Cleaning is one thing, and ideally, you (and maybe your children too) will be able to find ten or fifteen minutes a day to clean one room in your house. Do this every day to a different room, and you’ll get the entire home cleaned in a week (assuming you have an average-sized house, that is).

Tidying is something else. You can have a clean house that’s untidy (although cleaning does become more difficult), just as you can have a tidy house that isn’t completely clean. When it comes to being tidy, sometimes storage really is your friend. Invest in Tylko’s modern sideboards with drawers, and you’ll immediately have a place to put school books and stationery, for example. Or get some storage crates that suit the style of your home and add them to shelving. There are so many options when it comes to adding storage to your home that it’s worth researching the ideas and working out what’s best for you.

Know What Clean Is For You

Keeping a clean home as a parent is stressful. If you can do it, that’s great, and hopefully, the ideas above will help you do that. But if you can’t do it because it’s too much or you have plenty of other things to think about, don’t berate yourself too harshly – we’re all different.

If you really can’t do some housework every day, then work out what is most important to you. Is it best to ensure you do the dishes every time they need to be done? Is it dusting that is a priority in your mind? Maybe it’s making the beds every day. Know what clean is for you so you can be happy and achieve whatever it is you can achieve. You and your children will benefit if you just give yourself a break once in a while.
