Gold-star classroom essentials every homeschool should have

Ad

Homeschooling comes with all kinds of challenges: confused kids, short attention spans, distractions in every room, bewildering study resources and stressed out parents. But, perhaps the biggest challenge you shouldn’t have to face is school equipment worries. Do you have enough pens? What about paper and printer inks? Are you using the right software? Do you have a good internet connection?… It’s not always easy to know what to prioritise.

When your homeschooling day is lacking organisation and the tools you and your children need, it won’t be long before all those minor issues start to develop into much bigger problems. To help keep you and your children on the right learning track, I’ve gathered a list of classroom essentials every home school should have. Read on to find out more.

A home printer with inks

Every home should have a printer. Even though many businesses and schools are trying to go paperless by prioritising online lessons and resources, having access to a printer is still essential. Not only can you print out resources when you need them, but it also allows your children to pursue other activities, both in and out of the classroom and away from the screen. If you’re worried about the cost of printer inks, don’t be. You’ll find a great supplier of HP printer cartridges here, just click the link. Having a good supply of paper and printer inks will help you make the most of this classroom essential.

Art supplies

It’s easy to get wrapped up in long division, spelling practice and Pythagoras theorem, but education and learning aren’t just about a strict curriculum. Allowing your children to explore art and their creative side can help them be better thinkers, as it gives them the chance to express themselves through different mediums and even become stronger communicators. All of which can complement their other learning channels. Some basic art supplies, like paints and brushes, crayons, glue, paper, even chalk and items for junk modelling have a place in every classroom.

Storage

Endless reams of paper, classroom resources, materials, books and all your stationery – when you have potentially months of homeschooling ahead, you’re going to need somewhere to store all your classroom essentials. Standing drawer organisers, colourful trays, baskets and labelled boxes will help keep organisation levels high and stress levels low. Don’t forget a label maker!

Mini whiteboard plus pens/erasers

Conscious of your paper waste? Or maybe you want to test your little ones with some quick-fire questions, or add another level of engagement to their handwriting activities? Mini whiteboards with markers and erasers can be used for all kinds of activities. They’re easy to clean and store too.

And finally, laminator and pouches

If you’re printing a lot of resources, then you’ll want to keep them in good condition. Especially if you have little children with sticky hands or wandering pens to teach. A simple home laminator and pouches mean you can reuse the same resources again and again. Saving you time and money on your printing.
