Facebook is one of those things that I love and hate n equal measure. But, every now and then it throws up a gem that makes being part of Facebook worth while!
A week or so ago I was scrolling through my news feed when I spotted an event for a craft session at the Children’s Scrapstore in Salford. I haven’t been before but it was a free event (although they do ask for a small donation) so given I was at a loose end with Damian being in work, the children and I headed over.
The event was a drop in session from 10:30 – 14:00. When we arrived we were warmly greeted and asked to sign in. We were then invited to head through to the large room that had been set up with a range of craft activities, ranging from making a dragons headband to a dragon or fairy in a jar, painting and junk modelling.
The children both made the fairy and dragons in a jar, and the staff on hand were excellent with the children, offering just the right amount of support and guidance.
The children then moved on to the painting and then to the junk modelling. I wasn’t sure how they’d take to this as junk modelling isn’t something we have really done, but with a bit of encouragement they were away and both had a lot of fun with it.
The site is superb and is a real gem – I’m so glad that we found it and I’m planning on taking the children to their next super Saturday event tomorrow. I am also thrilled that some local Home Education meet ups have been arranged there so I am hoping that this group becomes a regular in our calendar over the next few months.
Have you got a children’s scrap store near you? Have a look at the directory to find your local one and maybe check out if they have any super Saturday events – I can really recommend them and I am sure children of all ages will have a blast.
