Child-Friendly Ways to Exercise for Busy Parents

Collaborative post

When you have young kids, the chances are that you spend the majority of your time running around after them. Ironically, this can leave very little time to get stuck into some exercise. Finding childcare so that you can regularly hit the gym or join a club can be tricky, so you may find that you miss out.

Looking after kids can at times be both exhausting and stressful, so being able to release some of that and get the endorphins pumping is a great way to feel better. The benefits of regular exercise on both physical and mental wellbeing are well-documented. If you are struggling to find child-free time to be active, why not bring the kids along too? Here are some of the ways that you can maintain or improve your fitness, with the kids in tow:

Swimming

Swimming is excellent exercise and an activity that most kids love. A trip to the pool with the kids will not only help them to develop their swimming skills but will also provide a great opportunity to have fun together while exercising. It’s also a perfect excuse to buy some of the gorgeous girls swimwear available right now! Swimming is such an important life skill, so building your child’s confidence in the water, and getting some exercise at the same time is a perfect regular activity to do together.

Trampolining

Another activity that kids love and grown-ups too is trampolining. It’s impossible not to feel great while you are bouncing around on a trampoline! This is an activity that you can enjoy together and a great stressbuster too.

If you don’t have an indoor trampoline park near you, you may find parent and child trampolining classes available in your area instead.

Parent and Child Yoga

If you like your yoga classes to be quiet and peaceful, this may not be the one for you, but if you’re happy to go with the flow, you may just love it. Family yoga sessions are a great way to do some (relatively) peaceful exercise together. Yoga classes are a perfect way to stretch out some of that tension and clear your head; the kids will love giving the postures a go too.

Running

If your kids are still young enough to sit in the pushchair, why not pop them in and head out for a run. Sometimes, on a stressful day strapping the kids in the buggy, and pounding the pavements can be all that you need to work away some of that stress. You will probably find that the motion and the fresh air will make your little ones fall asleep too, meaning that they can wake up feeling refreshed and happier when you get back home.

If running isn’t your thing, why not try setting off on a walk? Being out in the fresh air is always a great stress reliever; being out of the house can help you to get your perspective back and leave you feeling a lot better.
