I think we can say that, despite that late blast of sunny weather, we are moving in the autumn time. I love autumn; it is my favourite time of the year and I love nothing more than comfy jumpers and boots; hot chocolates and autumnal colours. It may be time to pack the little denim shorts away, but there’s plenty to be excited about for the autumn.
Choose autumnal colours
Now, I am a big fan of colour in my wardrobe and reds, browns and oranges are the perfect blends of autumnal colour that your wardrobe needs. This boxy co-ord set is just perfect with its rust orange colour. The boxy top is great with jeans if you don’t want to go all out orange and you can mix and match the joggers with some other sets to co-ordinate.
I love the colour of this; reminds me of autumn leaves and it certainly adds some sunshine to the darker mornings ahead when you’re at the park or heading for a walk.
I also really love the joggers from FemmeLuxe more often than not have deep pockets – perfect for popping keys and money into without having to carry a bag all the time.
Embrace Leggings
I do still like to wear my black dresses despite the cooler weather and the autumn is the perfect time to team with warm leggings in rich colours. I like to go for a deep purple or maroon and match with a pair of mid-length boots. Just because the weather is cooling, it doesn’t mean you have to ditch the dresses instead you can simply change them up a little.
The other benefit of legging is that if you get caught in a downpour then it’s not as uncomfortable (to me at least!) as walking around in wet clammy jeans! Leggings definitely seem to dry out much quicker!
You can also add a long cardigan to your look which brings me onto my next section….
Love Layering
I am a big fan of using layers in the autumn months. It helps keep my outfits looking fresh and I don’t have to invest in too much new stuff. I do try and get 2/3 quality cardigans and use these over dresses or t-shirts and skirts. All too often people seem to turn to the darker colours in the autumn but why not consider adding a pop of colour with a bright t-shirt?
I also really like the idea of shackets like the one below which I have paired with a lilac tee. The shacket adds some interest to the outfit and can be paired with a skirt or jeans and can be dressed up or down. Choose your shacket in fairly neutral shades and you’ll be able to match to most things from your favourite jeans and boots to even a much loved white dress.

Shackets are a great addition to any wardrobe and the one above is a looser fit so as the weather turns cooler again I’ll be able to team it with a long sleeve top and a scarf without it feeling too bulky. Win win!
Don’t forget the accessories
Finally, autumn for me sees me dig out the hats and scarves and to start to choose the ones I will use as my staples. I have so many scarves including thick woolen ones and thinner cotton ones. I like to mix and match to add interest to my outfits. I had sparkly scarves for evenings out as well as more muted tones and some themed and seasonal ones too! Adding a scarf to an outfit it super simple but can add a bit of interest, especially if you look to tie it in an unusual way; there’s plenty of inspiration over on YouTube.
Hats are another great autumnal addition. My biggest tip would be to pick a style that you know suits you. I have a style that I know works for me and every year I tend to add a new hat to my collection. I have two or three favourites that I have had for many years but always seem to acquire a new one to my collection. I have neutral greys to brighter plums and electric blues as well as stripey hats (which my children love!) I did have a bright yellow one but my youngest claimed that last year so I think that’s his now!
Yes the weather is getting cooler and the nights are beginning to draw in, but don’t let that mean you remove colour and fun from your wardrobe. Embracing colour either through purposeful choice or by accessorising helps to keep interested in your wardrobe.
