As today marks World Book Day, I thought I’d have a series of posts across the day to showcase my children’s favourite books.
Reading is a BIG deal here. Anyone who knows me will know that my house is often drowning under books! We have books everywhere, and I am keen to add a bookcase to our dining room…. just requires a bit of a think as to how we re-jig things in our front room once we have decorated and whether we move the current bookcase or not. Either way it will very soon be filled with books for the children and I.
The final post today is to share the books that my three-year-old son loves. I often feel like I neglect reading with H sometimes – he loves his stories but as I also have the older two I find that I read aloud less often in the day with him. We still manage daily reading and talking about books, and he is super excited when new books arrive. He is taking ever-increasing interest in the words on the pages and I look forward to the next 18 months when we start his own reading journey with him

Percy the Park Keeper
Percy is a new addition to the reading pile here and is very much H’s book of choice. He absolutely loves these stories and we read them every day. A National Trust property close by has had a series of Percy the Park Keeper trails and it is this I think that has brought this book into our lives. Percy wasn’t part of my own childhood as the first stories started appearing when I was past the picture book stage but I can see how the series has endured for 30 years.
They’re a fantastic series of book and we love Fox’s Hiccups and One Snowy Night very much – H knows these storied by heart and loves them very much, so much so he plans to go to his World Book Day gathering as Percy.
Peppa Pig
Peppa seems to be a big hit here, we don’t really watch the TV show but he absolutely adores the stories. The low level sarcasm makes me smile as the adult reading it. Peppa teaches lots of fun lessons and the book really do keep H engaged. Personal favourites are Peppa and Her Golden Boots, which is possibly the zaniest book I’ve ever read. It’s utterly bonkers but heaps of fun and a book that H takes each time he spots it in the library.

Julie Donaldson
No Pre-Schooler book list would be complete without Julia Donaldson books. We have loved and loved so many of these books over the many years. H particularly loves Monkey Puzzle and Tabby McTat. He loves to read along with these books and all three children still enjoy these stories together. Julia Donaldson has created such wonderful books that certain phrases and stories will always hold a special place in my heart.
