As part of my 2020 commitment to more reading, I signed up to the A Mother’s Secret Blog tour.
This is a cracker of a book and my second favourite after Starting Over at Acorn Cottage which I managed to read in one sitting!.
What’s the Story about?
So the story is predominantly about two women, Saskia and Verity. They’re two very different women whose paths through this story are interconnected.
Verity is married to Nathan, and mother to his two University sons. She finds herself alone as her sons are away studying and her husband away in Singapore. She opens the door one morning to find Saskia. A young woman claiming that Nathan is her father.
The story unfolds as we await the resolution of Saskia’s parentage (and her own impending journey into motherhood). Verity is juggling many different aspects, including her own difficult job as a teacher.

Characters
The characters were good and well developed and it was easy to develop a sense of empathy with them as they navigate the situations that they find themselves in.
There’s a good mix of characters and it’s nice to see how they develop as the story moves along. I felt a real empathy to them all and it was nice to see the women’s stories told with the mean as supporting characters; this book is very much about the women and how they relate to the situations they’re faced with.
What I loved
I really liked this book; it showed really well the ‘mental load’ that women often carry. After reading the story I thought a better title might have been A Mother’s Love rather than a Mother’s Secret as I felt that this story really reflected the love that a mother gives, and how unconditional this can be. I found it a really intriguing story and almost wanted to learn more about how the story moves on for the characters.
