The Key Purchases a New Mum Needs

Collaborative Post

Are you preparing to become a new mom? If so then, this is always going to be a fantastic time. However, you do have a lot of jobs to take care of before you’re ready for your bouncing new bundle of joy. For instance, you will need to make a lot of key purchases. Here are some of the ones that we recommend you keep in mind.

Pushchair

Most babies will at some point be put in a stroller, investing in a comfy hardwearing one is a must for new mums. Some strollers will come as a complete travel system, including; car seat, buggy chassis, seat unit and bassinet/carrycot to put on the buggy unit.

Car Seat

All babies will need a car seat when leaving the hospital after being born, it is also the law to use them when riding in a car. When you are choosing a car seat, safety should be a top priority. There are car seats that use special connectors to ensure that they are as secure as possible when the vehicle is moving. It’s not uncommon for car seats to come with different accessories too. For instance, some car seats that are rear-facing come with mirrors so you can keep an eye on your baby while you are travelling. Although ideally, someone should be in the back with your little one.

Crib/Cot

All babies unless you choose to co-sleep should be placed in a crib or cot when napping or sleeping at night. Cribs and cots come in a variety of different shapes and sizes as well as styles. You will notice that these can cost an absolute fortune and you might want to limit yourself to a particular amount. Particularly, when you consider that your little one won’t be sleeping in there for that long if we’re talking about cribs. Again, you do need to think about safety here as some of the ones found on the market are considered dangerous by both parents and experts.

Baby Carrier/Sling

A baby carrier is a good investment as it saves your arms and your back when carrying children, some can even be used from newborn all the way up to 4 years. When babywearing you must ensure that your babies legs and hips resemble an M shape as this is the correct ergonomic position to reduce the risk of hip dysplasia.  These carriers and slings aren’t for everyone but they will be perfect for you if you have an active lifestyle. However, you do need to be realistic about what you can and can’t do with a baby strapped to your chest.

We hope this helps you understand some of the key purchases that you will need to make before you become a new mom. By getting these purchases out of the way early, you can avoid a lot of stress later on in this journey. You will also be able to manage your budget more effectively and ensure that you do have the right amount to spend on other purchases later in your baby’s life.
