The Benefits Of An En-Suite Bathroom

Collaborative Post

Having an en-suite bathroom in your home is a luxury that most people would love to have on their property. Other than convenience, what are the other advantages to having one?

What is an en-suite?

An en-suite is a bathroom that is accessible directly from a single bedroom. It is usually a private bathroom for the people who sleep in that bedroom. Depending on the size of the property, an en-suite can be very small, including a toilet, washbasin and shower cubicle right the way through to a full-size luxury bathroom.

If you don’t have a lot of space but still want an en-suite, then check out this article on making the most out of a small bathroom to get some inspiration.

It can improve property prices

An en-suite is a very desirable feature for a property, especially if there is only one other main toilet or family bathroom. Having an en-suite installed will raise the value of your property when you come to sell. If you’re planning to sell in the foreseeable future, then do some research on house prices and what you could realistically expect to add to the value of your home. This can help you budget. For example, if an en-suite adds £5K to the value of your home, is spending £10K a good use of your money?

Privacy

If you live in a house with other people such as family or friends, then having your own private space to wash or use the toilet is a huge plus. If your en-suite has a bathtub, you can use it to get some private time to relax without the risk of people banging on the door to get in because they need something.

Takes pressure off the main family bathroom

If your home only has one toilet or family bathroom and there are other people who live with you, then you can almost guarantee there’ll be times when you’re queuing for the bathroom, disturbing each other or the nightmare scenario of everyone having food poisoning at the same time.

Also, if there’s a leak or breakdown in either the bathroom or the en-suite, then there will still be somewhere for people to be able to wash or use the toilet.

Prepares your home for the future

If you’re older, live with mobility issues, or are planning on living in your home for as long as possible, then having an en-suite is a great way to ensure that you can live more comfortably. It’s much easier and more private to have your own connected space.

Think about this when you’re designing the en-suite and consider features such as wider doors, walk-in showers without a lip on the floor and the placement of handholds in the future.

Final thoughts

When it comes to home improvements, you always need to consider the pros and cons of having anything done. In most cases, you’ll weigh up the cost versus the added value to your home, but not everything is necessarily about the valuation, it can also be about your quality of life and lifestyle while you live there. en-suites provide a huge range of benefits, which is why almost all new builds have them and owners of older properties sacrifice bedroom space to have them installed.
