It certainly feels like spring is long overdue! With wet and windy weather and of course the world news being somewhat worrying, it’s nice to finally see those early spring signs… flowers beginning to grow and trees starting to return to their beautiful leafy colours.
The longer days means more natural light which makes for much easier stitching. Now our home is more or less finished following our building project, I have a new stitching spot with plenty of natural light and I have been busy looking at which projects I want to work on this spring and summer.
I generally have two or three projects that I switch between, one is usually a chart only kit and typically an ‘easier’ stitch that doesn’t require too much concentration. I then have a larger project on the go, something like a sampler style that is a bit more of an inbetween type project.
At the moment I am working on a new kit from Ava – I’ve not stitched any of their designs before but The Wise Cat is lovely and reminds me very much of my oldest cat, Finley. I have only managed around 4% of this kit so far, but hoping to be able to make longer chunks of time to work on it now the lighter evenings are weith us. Ava also offer a digital copy of their designs, you just need to contact them and provide some information to prove you own the kit and they send the design on. The pattern is pattern keeper compatible took which is great and, for full coverage, really helps to work from a digital pattern. I’m enjoying the challenge of this project.
Here are some of my spring themed kits from my stash that I’m hoping to get a start on at some stage this year. Kitten’s Sleep in so pretty but the other two look like quicker projects so likely I will do one of those first.
I do so love spring time stitching; theres always lots of pretty colours and so many different themes to stitch to embrace the changing seasons. Here are some of my favourite spring time picks this year.
Pretty Florals
It’s rare that I don’t have fresh flowers in the house and I absolutely love these two kits – vase of roses from Ava is gorgeous as is Bouquet of Tulips from Luca-s. I love the colours used in theseand whilst tulips are my favourite flower I usually have roses in my kitchen. I have a really old project from a magazine that I should dig out and try and complete as it embraces the floral theme.
Amazing Animals
I’m a sucker for a fox kit and Summer Dreams from Letistich is high on my wishlist. It’s so pretty and the colours remind me of those glorious spring mornings when the sun is making a welcome return. Spring at the farm from Ava is lovely and completely captures Easter and spring – I love this one and another on my wish list for sure
One of my own stitchy vices is I like to stitch seasonal series of kits and I am in love with the seasonal birds from Luca-S – the Spring ones are just gorgeous and the perfect excuse to change around your stitchy decor and complete the four seasons.
Spring Accessories
I do love my accessories and have quite the collection of project bags, needleminders and the such, here are some of my top choices to bring a touch of spring to your stitching.
This Dancing Bird needleminder is so pretty. I have some Letistitch needleminders and they’re excellent quality with really strong magnets to keep everything where it needs to be.
I stitch using either Elbesee scroll frames for my bigger projects or Nurge hoops for my smaller ones. I LOVE nurge hoops and have quite the collection. They hold the fabric super tight. I don’t have many colours (other than the tan one) so I love these new colours that have been released. The green nurge hoop is particularly pretty for a spring project and at £22.90 for a full set of the four different sizes an aboslute bargain. I can’t speak highly enough about these hoops and a full set of all sizes will be on my purchase list soon.
Finally, I always seem to have quite a collection of needles, either from kits over the years or spares I have bought, I try and keep them stored by size and needle tins are lovely for helping to keep everything together, nice and neat and secure.
