2020 hasn’t been a great year for travel. The coronavirus and Covid-19 pandemic have wrought chaos around the world. The vast majority of us have been living under completely different circumstances to usual, with many of us being unable to leave the house unless necessary for set periods of time in intermittent lockdowns. On top of this, outside of lockdown periods, we tend to have had to keep our distance from those who do not live in the same household as us. These measures have been important to slow the spread of the virus around the world. But they have also been bad for travel, with many of us having to cancel our holidays and getaways due to closed borders, border restrictions or cancelled flights and accommodation. At the same time, many of us need a break now more than ever in order to deal with stress levels and let our hair down. So, is it possible to meet in the middle and manage a break that abides by the rules and regulations? The answer is yes. Of course, you need to be flexible and prepare for changes that could result in cancellations. But if things continue to improve, you could well organise a family break this winter. Here are a few suggestions that will help you.
Stay More Local
Sure, a family break to Lapland to see Santa Claus would be nice. But it might not be the right break for this year. Instead, you should consider staying a little closer to home. By arranging a trip that doesn’t require transport with other people (such as a plane), you’re less likely to experience cancellation and disappointment. The best type of trips for 2020? Camping or using a motorhome. Of course, camping is fine in the summer, but a campervan or motorhome is much more preferable in the winter. You’ll be able to keep your little ones warmer and provide more amenities, such as beds, a bathroom, cooked food from the kitchen and working electrics.
Preparing Your Motorhome
When it comes to using a motorhome, you have two options. You could buy one for yourself. This could be a good investment, as we don’t know when travel will be back to usual and this could be used for next year’s breaks too. Alternatively, you could rent one. Either way, you will have to insure your motorhome today to ensure that you are insured to drive and use it during your trip.
Plan Where to Go
Decide where you want to go well in advance. This way, you can plan a route and make sure that there’s space to park your motorhome. Generally, it’s best to choose a family-friendly camp or motorhome site. This will provide a safe environment. Just make sure to stay apart from families you don’t live with.
Just because travel is limited, doesn’t mean that you have to throw aside all chances of a family break. There’s still the opportunity to have quality time together outside of your own home in a safe and responsible manner!
