Install A Sliding Pantry Next To your Refrigerator
If there’s a gap beside your refrigerator that you’re not using, don’t let it go to waste. Instead, install a sliding pantry.
These little home additions are incredibly helpful for storing ambient food items, such as tins, spices, herbs and sauces. You could also use them for cereal if you’ve run out of space in your cupboards.
Add A Door-Mounted Hanging Shoe Rack To Your Bedroom Door
Shoes are another household item that can take up a lot of space, particularly if you happen to own many pairs.
One idea to help free up space is to hang a rack on the back of your bedroom door.
To do this, find some PVC piping with a large diameter. Then cut it into lengths suitable for holding shoes – say 12 inches long. Then arrange all the piping in a honeycomb fashion and stick them together with superglue. Once dried, hang the construction from your door rack so that you have more space in your closet.
Deck Out Your Garage With Racking
If you’ve ever worked in a supermarket, you’ll know that they have a lot of pallet racking in the warehouse and chillers for all their products. You can set up something similar in your garage to provide you with the extra storage space that you need.
Decking out a garage with racking is cheap, effective, and shouldn’t get in the way of any vehicles.
Store More Items Under Your Bed
Another option is to store more items under your bed. You can do this by inserting drawers on casters underneath the bed. If you can get the sizing right, you can even make it look as if it is part of the bed itself, and not just an add-on.
Put A Shelf Over The Top Of Your French Door
Another option is to put a shelf just above your French doors at the back of your house, provided there isn’t a curtain rail in the way. You can use this extra space for storing vases, books and other paraphernalia you might want to keep up there.
Add More Laundry Baskets To Your Utility Room
Another idea is to add more shelving to your laundry room and then deck it out with labelled laundry baskets. You could have one for delicates, silks, whites, and colours. You could also use the shelving to store detergents and fabric softeners.
Store Your Firewood In A Tall Rack
Lastly, you might want to reconsider how you’re currently storing your firewood. While dumping it all in a basket next to your fireplace is the obvious option, many people are now opting to store it in elegant racks. These look a bit like long, thin bookshelves, but without the individual spacers.
