Getting a room ready for your children can take a lot of planning and a lot of consideration, but it’s super exciting! You get to decorate the room according to their tastes, their needs, and what they would like to input in their bedroom which is their private and safe space. When your little one is getting ready to grow and play, you must consider all the possible needs for yourself as a parent and them as a child.

For example, you wouldn’t install a white carpet in a child’s bedroom given that they like to play and make a lot of mess. Many parents opt for a grey carpet or a dark red instead because it can absorb the stains a lot easier. Dark carpets are more forgiving, as are duck blinds for the window when your child needs to sleep, and bright colors on the walls when they need to have some help in their cognitive development. Everybody remembers their childhood bedroom so if you want to make your child’s bedroom magical you need these tips below.

  • Choose the right furniture. Furniture is super important in a child’s bedroom because you need to choose furniture that is at the right height. Tables, chairs, even storage and shelves should be at a height where your child can reach. Their bedroom is their space for them to be independent and have fun, and that can be achieved if you ensure that they can reach their things. If they tried to climb to reach their own toys, accidents can happen, and this can be easily avoided.
  • Find a way to highlight their art. You want to encourage your child to learn and be creative especially when they finally get their hands on chalk and paint at school. By installing a display area for all their clay pots and their pictures, you are going to give them somewhere they can feel proud of all their things. Having a white board, for example, with magnets for them to hold up their pictures is going to give them some control over their own decor in their bedroom. The easy part here is that you can replace the pictures as they bring new ones and not have to constantly fill pin holes in the walls.
  • Choose the right lighting. It’s never a good idea to choose lighting that is halogen based because they do emit a lot of heat. LED lights as well as a night light is more than enough. A night light is a smart idea especially if any of your children are afraid of the dark.
  • Consider the colors. The colour of your child’s bedroom can have an impact on their development and their ability to fall asleep. You don’t need to go with a Barbie pink room or a sky blue bedroom, you can be a bit more creative than that. If your child is old enough to have a favorite colour or a preferred colour, get their input and use paint to help them to create the bedroom they really want to be in.
