If you’ve got children, you’ll know how quickly their bedrooms can suffer from wear and tear. And no matter how much cleaning, tidying and nagging you do, they often look a bit messy. Sometimes, it can just be a case of a better organisation or adding more storage. But sometimes, they do need a bit of a refresh. And a refresh can help your kids appreciate their bedrooms more.
So, here’s four ways to perk up your kids’ rooms:
Change the floor
A change to flooring in a kitchen or lounge can give it a lift. So, why not children’s bedrooms? If you’re on a budget, then it’s worth looking for hard wearing and affordable materials. A good quality laminate or loop pile carpet for example. The cost of laminate floor fitting or carpet fitting may need to be considered though.
Or if you want to keep it simple, a good-sized rug could do just as good a job of freshening up the bedroom floor. And you may find there’s more choice in the colour and design of rugs than there is with carpet.

Paint the walls a new colour
Another good idea for a bedroom refresh is to add a fresh coat of paint to the walls. And it’s an affordable option. Try going for a wipeable paint, so you can remove finger marks and scuffs without needing to redecorate so often.
Greens and blues are considered good colours for kids’ bedrooms, but it’s also a good idea to go for colours that your kids really like. And it’s sensible to get some samples to try on the wall first, to make sure everyone’s happy.
Get a bed that’s full of fun
If you’ve got younger children, then a bed that’s a bit more fun could be a good idea for a room refresh. Themed beds, bed canopies and beds with extras such as a seating area underneath, can create a more exciting space. Add in a new duvet cover and a funky bedside light, and you’ll have a refreshed space that your kids will love using.
Add a reading corner
If you’re keen to encourage a bit more reading, then a reading corner may be a good addition to the bedroom. If it feels like a fun space, then reading won’t seem like such a chore. Add some comfy elements so they want to settle down in it. Beanbags, cushions or comfy seating is ideal. You could even put up a den or play tent to make it more of an adventure.
