Pregnancy is hard work. There’s absolutely no denying that. Even before you find out that you are expecting, you might start to experience symptoms such as sore breasts, mood swings, sickness, fatigue and general aches and pains. Throughout the 40 weeks that you are pregnant, some of these symptoms might fade (hopefully the sickness!) but others, like swollen ankles and hip pain, might appear. You might find that you have difficulty sleeping, that you are uncomfortable all of the time and that you are rarely off the toilet.
On top of all of that, there is so much to do. You’ll have things to buy and prepare. You might still be working up until near your due date while fitting in doctors appointments and scans. It’s tough going, but you know that it will all be worth it in the end.
But, this doesn’t mean that pregnancy can’t be a wonderful time. Despite all of the hard work that your body is doing, the ups and downs you are facing emotionally and the exhaustion that you are bound to feel, pregnancy is a magical time. Here are some of the best bits that you should enjoy as much as you can.
Being Looked After
Soon, the baby will be getting most of the attention. But, until the birth, you are number one. Your partner, friends, family and colleagues will all be eager to look after you. You’ll be offered plenty of chances to rest or put your feet up. You might get lie-ins and back rubs. People will offer to look after any other children that you’ve got so that you can rest. Make the most of being looked after and cared for while you’ve got chance.
Shopping for Baby
Many expectant parents choose not to start shopping until at least after their first scan when they know that everything is going well. Some want to wait even longer. It really is up to you. But, when you do start shopping, don’t get stressed out about everything that you need, let yourself enjoy it. A newborn doesn’t need as much as you might think, so there’s nothing to stop you browsing pretty clothes if that’s what you enjoy doing.
Picking Out Names
Picking out names can be challenging. But it can also be great fun. Look at traditional English girls names, use name generators, ask your friends and family and even throw some fun names into the mix to keep your partner on his toes.
Most of us spend a lot of our lives worried about our weight. We get upset when we can’t fasten our jeans and hate not feeling our best. You might be one of the many women that’s dieted on and off her whole life.
While pregnancy certainly isn’t an excuse to eat for two, and you should still try to stick to a healthy and balanced diet, it’s the one time in your life when you won’t feel guilty about those little treats. Enjoy your food, and know that you are meant to be getting bigger.
Good Hair Days
Many women find that their hair, nails and skin look radiant while they are pregnant. This is mostly down to hormones, and unfortunately, it’s unlikely to last long after birth so enjoy as many good hair days as you can.
