Dimensions : Black Cat Moon Cross Stitch Kit

I recently finished my first Dimensions kit and thought I’d share a little here about it.

This was a birthday gift from my brother and his family. I had added it to my Cotton Club Crafts wish list and when I saw it I knew it was one I wanted to stitch as it reminded me of our own black cat, Jet, who likes to play by the light of the moon (usually chasing moths).

Dimensions isn’t a company I’ve ever stitched from before, and to be honest, buying kits is a relatively new thing for me. I have always kitted myself and stitched from charts but I’m definitely using more kits at the moment, probably because our house has been in such disarray that kits have made it easier to just grab something and set to work.

What’s in the Kit?

The kit included black aida, all the cotton floss needed to stitch the project, easily separated (although I did put this on a separate floss holder) and a large fold out chart. Personally I found this chart too large to use so I photocopied the section I needed to work from that. There’s also a guide to how to use the floss to create the different shades of grey.

Stitching the Kit

The aida felt quite stiff, and, had I had any black aida I would probably have switched it out to something softer, but it did soften up a little with use. The finished piece is quite small so that fabric didn’t fit into my usual nurge hoops so I had to use a traditional embroidery hoop.

The pattern was clear and the kit makes use of half cross stitches in a lot of it to create the shades and texture of the moon. This means it does stitch us quickly. It also blends threads to create the different shades, sometimes using three lengths mixed together. This was really lovely and super effective especially on the shadows of the moon.

Finished

I was really impressed with how effective this item looked and I now need to frame it. I haven’t yet looked for  a frame, that will be an evening job once the children are back at their scout groups but I think it will look lovely once it’s done.

I was impressed too with just how much floss was left over – certainly enough to almost stitch the whole kit again I think.

My gift was purchased from Cotton Club Crafts, but I think it’s no longer available there. I do have another Dimensions kit in my stash (Too Pooped) that I think I picked up via ebay/Vinted last year.
