I love the coming Spring, it’s always a time when the long summer months are almost in reach, and a time to get on with some spring jobs around the house.
I think I spent the winter creating lists of jobs to do and then the spring and summer working through them until we get back to the winter and a new list can be written!
What we have done so far
We have already set about clearing out some of the bits and pieces we seem to have gathered over the last six months or so, and have had the front of the property repointed, which we hope has solved a problem in the children’s bedrooms.
We still need to do the jet-washing outside but that’s a job for a warmer weekend and it will soon be time to clear out the old plant pots and start to plant something new. I do enjoy seeing the changing colours in the spring as our garden comes back to life, but I don’t enjoy the gardening quite as much so that’s a job I leave to Damian and the children.
The bigger jobs
This year we need to focus on some of the bigger jobs. Last year we had the windows replaced and this year we plan to finish off our front room and the children’s bedrooms.
We haven’t updated the children’s room for a little while and they have been mentioning that they’d like a bit of a change. In truth the rooms do need a bit of a refresh so we really ought to put some plans in place to do it.
Our living room just needs a bit of a paint and we had planned to buy new sofas, but we haven’t quite managed to get round to it just yet. A job at some point soon I am sure.
Once we have chosen the sofas then we can get the other soft furnishings such as cushions and throws and the such.
The children’s rooms
Emma is desperate for her room to be painted, she’s had new bedroom furniture not too long ago and we have added bits and pieces to her room to personalise it all a bit more for her. She’s made it much more of a girly space with unicorn bunting on her wall, pink and purple dream catchers and rugs and a blanket. I like the feel of Em’s room as it’s quite fresh and calming and the pastel colours she has at the moment I think provide for a soothing space.
The boys’ room needs a bit of a change around and we may well change their beds into bunk beds as well as changing the décor. I think we might paper their walls this time around, and they’re keen to keep the green theme (save the arguments over football colours!) so we may well get some green wallpaper for the main wall and go with a neutral colour for the other walls. We then need to think about storage and maybe a new wardrobe for them and a few soft furnishings to personalise their space for them.
I’ve always liked using green in the children’s rooms and it feels like a good way to bring the outside world indoors. I also find it quite a natural and restful colour and that for me is key in the children’s rooms; they should be a space for them to rest and find calm.
We have only papered once and that was in the living room. It’s stood the test of time quite well so I’m sure we will manage to do a decent job of the boy’s room and give it a really good and fresh feel.
Do you plan to do much at home this year? I always think we must be due a year off… but then I start to write a new list and keep adding to my Pinterest boards!
