General Life Musings

A Change is as Good as a Rest

If you’ve followed my Instagram stories recently then you might have seen I’ve been feeling a little run down and generally out of sorts. Something isn’t right so I’ve booked in with my GP for some blood tests next week. I’m hoping that it’s a quick fix to sort whatever is contributing to my lack of energy and helps to explain some of the lethargy and fog I find myself in at the moment.

Part of me wonders if it’s just a general busyness and lack of self-care that’s contributing to feeling run down, so I’ve been taking steps to improve things in that respect.  Whilst a week away in the sun would be much appreciated, it’s not on the horizon right now so, as the old saying goes, a change is as good as a rest.

Decluttering

I am getting better at not holding on to every single thing that I think *might* be useful in the future. There is a wonderful Thrift site locally where people share items that they’re giving away for free. I’ve managed to thrift on lots of bits and pieces that were just cluttering the bookcases and the drawers. I am also getting better at filing away the children’s work as and when it’s done.

I’ve bought some zipper wallets for storing ongoing project work in before it is displayed or collated into lapbooks and this has already made it much easier to find things as we need them.

I’ve also been ruthless with the books we have. There are so many that the children are too old for now. Some of the better ones have been boxed for the loft and others I have given away. The same for some of my own books that I have read and won’t read again.

Changing the Furniture

I find our dining room the most frustrating room; it has to be used in so many different ways and I’m not sure it achieves all its functions. I spent the weekend de-cluttering and creating space, sorting through the toys and books etc. I have tidied up the pens and colouring things and swapped around some of the furniture. I really miss reading and it’s a promise to myself to read at least two books a month; something that I am determined to keep to as I have so many books to get through that I’d like to clear by Christmas time (to make space for new ones!) I have moved our lovely big sitting chair to a different corner of the room and already both Damian and I are using it much more. Where it is positioned seems to catch the light better and it’s located next to the bookcase. Just sitting whilst the children occupy themselves has seen me find thirty minutes here and there to read.

A Lick of Paint

We have a couple of rooms that are in need of decorating and we have finally made a start on our bedroom. I’ve managed to have a sort through some of the bits and pieces in our room, finding a space for things and decluttering in there. We have bought new bedding and bedside lamps and next up will be a blind or curtains once we have decided what we want.

Once our bedroom is finished, next up is the living room. We have toyed with the idea of adding in acoustic wall panels as we are aware of how noisy out little family can be and it might go some way to abosrbng the sound! There’s some that have shelving built in that we might take a look at when we move onto this room.

Pamper Yourself

Amidst the chaos of daily life, self-care becomes paramount. Consider indulging in a spa day or salon visit to rejuvenate both body and mind. However, exercise caution when choosing products, as some may contain harmful substances. Recently, there has been increased awareness of potential health risks associated with certain beauty products, like those found in hair relaxers. Stay informed about the latest developments, such as the hair relaxer cancer lawsuit cases, to make well-informed choices for your well-being.

Exercise

And finally, I need to get back into my exercise routine. It’s a bit of a bad cycle whereby I don’t have the energy to get up and go out, but equally when I do it helps me feel better! I’ve got a charity run with my brother in a week or two and I’m toying with the idea of buying a new runnning watch to help me track my steps and the such.

I need to make a real effort to find something that works for me at the moment, and I’m going to look for some home workout routines to complement my running.
