One of the great things about where we live is that we are well located for other North West cities such as Liverpool and Chester as well are North Wales, but we can also quite easily head east into Yorkshire.
I love Yorkshire and we have had some fab visits over there. I love places like the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and visiting cities like Sheffield. Although as much as I love Sheffield I am not overly keen on the drive over there.
The quickest way for us to get to Sheffield is over the Snake Pass. It’s a road that’s very picturesque and beautiful, but also really prone to changes in weather and of course, at this time of year when there’s often heavy rain or snow and ice it’s not uncommon for the Snake Pass to be closed and we instead have to take a different route.
We are pretty good at keeping on top of car maintenance, particularly after last year when we had a bad run with things going wrong with our car and having what seemed like an endless run of bad luck with the tyres. We had a month when we had constant issues with the tyres – we had two nails in the same tyre, which, when they were fixed caused other issues with the weights in the rim of the tyres and then with the tyres not being sealed correctly. I can’t tell you how stressful it is to be driving and to see the tyre warning lights come on, or worse, get back to your car and find you’ve got a flat tyre due to (yet another!) puncture.
Damian has some time off work soon so we plan to have a few days out and there’s a couple of National Trust places we have seen that I fancy going to so I’ll be making sure that the car is in ship shape for the journey across the Pennines. It’s all too easy to focus on making sure there’s enough fuel and the such but making sure you have the right tyres and that they’re the best tyres for your car and the type of driving you’re doing is equally as important. If in doubt it’s always worth taking your car into a garage or tyre specialist and taking their advice and you can find the right tyres in West Yorkshire and close by from Ossett Tyre House.
We check the tyre pressure and tread depth at least every fortnight on our car – we live on a badly potholed road so it’s one we always try to remember to do as it reduces fuel efficiency if you’re tyres are underinflated and I’d much rather spend the money on days out with the kids.
