Getting Equipped For A Nature Walk With Your Kids

Collaborative Post

Whether you’re taking your kids out on an educational trip, or simply to explore some of the gorgeous local landscapes that might be near you, it’s important to make sure that they’re well-equipped for whatever the day might throw at them. Here are some of the crucial pieces of gear that you should keep when you’re heading out to the woods or any other natural environment.

A waterproof coat

Even if the weather forecast says that skies are going to be sunny and perfect with not a drop of moisture to be seen, you don’t want to get caught out in the woods, unprepared, fifteen minutes away from your car, while it’s pelting down. As such, you should make sure that you have waterproofs for everyone. Good children’s Columbia waterproof coats aren’t too heavy and they can keep them open when the weather is good. If it’s a little too hot, then they’re light enough to roll up and carry in a rucksack, as well.

A good pair of boots

Of course, if your child sees a muddy puddle, then it’s only natural that they’re going to want to splash in it. Rather than get in a tizzy over whether or not they’re going to soak through their shoes, you should make sure that they are always wearing a good pair of boots, such as Hunter kids wellies, when they are out and about. Wellies are designed not only to keep their feet and socks dry, as best as possible but also to protect their little feet from the rough terrain that you might meet out there, such as stones in the ground.

Plenty of sunscreen

Just as you shouldn’t assume that there won’t be any rain, you shouldn’t assume that there won’t be strong sunlight as well. Even on cloudy days, if you’re spending a lot of time outdoors, you should make sure that your kids have their sunscreen applied on any areas of their skin that are exposed to it. You should bring a good sunscreen that protects against both UV-A and UV-B with a relatively high SPF to protect their sensitive skin and keep it in your bag so that you can easily reach it if, for instance, they decide to take off their coats.

A rucksack of supplies

Sunscreen isn’t the only supply that you should bring with you. You’re going to want a first-aid kit, some snacks like cereal bars, water bottles, and wet wipes to take care of any needs that crop up along the way. Most of all, you should be investing in a good, strong and lightweight rucksack that makes it easy for you to bring all of this around with you. Otherwise, it can be hard to get organised and quickly fetch what you need while out and about.

Nature walks can be fun, inspiring, and a great way to get more active with your family. However, you need to make sure that you’re well-equipped for them to make sure they don’t end in tears or worse.
