Family Holidays with Jet2.com

We recently took our first overseas holiday with the children. We had hoped to take them earlier but Covid and all the additional testing etc you needed to do for that made us delay our plans a little. But, this month we spent a week in Madrid with them, and it was fantastic.

Living in Manchester we are fortunate to have access to a number of airlines that do both long and short-haul. We have flown with a few different airlines over the years and one of my go to airlines is Jet2. They have a wide range of destinations from Manchester and I was thrilled to see that in March 2024 they will also be operating from Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Why Consider Liverpool John Lennon Airport?

Liverpool is my favourite airport for short-haul flights. It’s got some fabulous destinations and it’s only around an hour away from Manchester. With it being smaller, you’re through baggage drop and security checks really quickly and you don’t have miles to walk around the airport terminal to find the correct departure gates.

Once through the security checks, there are the usual duty-free shops, newsagents, food concessions etc, and plenty of seating areas. When we flew earlier this month we grabbed a bite to eat from the Boots store and made use of the ‘picnic’ seating areas. You can also see the planes landing and taking off which is great for helping keep children engaged and entertained.

Another big bonus is the on-site car parking. This worked out really well for us. We paid ahead of time and to leave the car for a week was around £45 – it would cost nearly that much to get a taxi to Manchester airport and obviously has the convenience of it being our own car etc.

Jet2.com Destinations

My parents have flown in recent months with Jet2 and had some fab breaks away and I’m looking forward to planning our next trip away with them. There are 20 destinations from Liverpool and I think my first choice would be Bulgaria as it’s somewhere we haven’t been or perhaps to Madeira. There are some fab places to choose from. Why not take a look at the map of destinations you can choose when flying from Liverpool?

When flying with Jet2 you can choose City Breaks or an all-inclusive holiday or perhaps you just need the flight. It’s easy to add what you need including additional luggage or sports equipment. Online check-in makes it easy and means less queuing when you arrive at the airport – important when you’re with children who are both excited and restless!

Tips for Travelling with Children

Having recently travelled with our three (10, 9 and 7) one of the key things to keep them entertained during the inevitable airport waits is to have things on hand in your hand luggage. We had books and puzzle books and also tasked them with finding things around the airport terminal –  things like keeping an eye on where the closest toilets were, and looking for the water fountains to re-fill our drinks bottles. Getting them to look at which flights were taking off and finding them on the departure boards. We also had fun trying to work out some of the more obscure destinations and where they might be!

We also had a guidebook on hand for our destination that they could look through and to make a bit of a plan of what we would do whilst away.

Travelling with children brings such wonder and enjoyment and it was fantastic seeing everything through their eyes – I can’t wait to book our next trip away with Jet2.com and see another part of the world with them.
