I wish I could take credit for this craft as I love it, but sadly I must give credit where it’s due! This super simple but brilliantly effective baby Jesus card was one of the activities at playgroup today.
It is important for me that Daniel and Emma don’t get caught up in the consumerist, big business driven nature of Christmas. Of course, they will want (and no doubt tell me they need!) things, but it is also important for me for them to know where the celebration of Christmas comes from.
This star therefore is perfect and so simple. It was made using a foam star, a piece of white cotton (although this would be just as effective if you used white paper) and a peach circle with a smiley face drawn on it. Using a bit of PVA glue Daniel stuck the body and face to the star. We then put some more PVA glue along the bottom and stuck some straw on (but you could use shredded paper). We then added a bit of glue to the edges and put some sequins on.
It can be used as a tree decoration by affixing a looped pipe cleaner to the top or if you add a piece of card to the back then it can be a Christmas card.
I love this craft as it is really really effective and so easy for even the smallest of hands to manage. We will be hanging ours on the Christmas tree once we buy it and put it up sometime next week.

What a lovely keepsake, I agree that it’s so important for children to know the real reason we celebrate christmas.
