Visiting London with children is an unforgettable experience, since the British capital has many places, restaurants, attractions and events designed exclusively for the youngest of the family. And what better way to plan a few days with the family in the British capital then with the sole purpose of seeing the joy and smile on their faces.
That is why we have created a list of the best things that can be done in London with children, some of which can also be done free of charge. If you are going to be in London for three days with children, you will have to choose which ones to go to see, but if you are going to spend more days in London with the children you can take them to all of them!
1. Visit Hamleys
No matter how old they are, surprise them with a visit to the most famous and largest toy store in the United Kingdom, right in the centre of London. Located on Regent Street, one of the most important shopping streets in London, the seven floors of this toy store will awaken your senses, and you will not be able to leave empty-handed! It is not possible to visit London with children and not enter this store.
2. Go to the Princess Diana Memorial Playground in Hyde Park
The park built in the memory of Princess Diana is a place that you must take the children to entertain for a while, since it is the most impressive playground in central London. Here you will find a giant wooden pirate ship surrounded by sand, with numerous corners to play, perfect to have good outdoors fun! In addition to the playground, we recommend a walk through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, and in passing see the statue of Peter Pan and see the famous park squirrels, which will surely come closer if they hear a plastic bag!
3. Take them for a crazy miniature golf course
One way to keep the children entertained and make the trip a blast for them is to take them to the best mini-golf spots in the city. Plonk! Golf has that covered with its crazy golf courses in several areas in the city such as Islington, Peckham, Camden Town and Shoreditch. The games are not only entertaining but also challenging in a way that even adults can enjoy them. For more information check plonkgolf.co.uk
4. Take them to a museum
If you are going to visit London with children visiting a museum is a suggestion that you might question because we often combine museums with boredom when we’re young, but it is absolutely mandatory! The truth is that some of the museums in London are spectacular to take children, and I can assure you that you will love the experience. The Museum of Natural History is essential, and they will love the idea if you tell them that you are going to see the dinosaurs, which is one of the most popular exhibitions in this museum. Visiting the entire museum of natural history can take a full day, so I usually recommend entering to admire the beautiful building and take the children to see the section of the dinosaurs, which is just entering the left.
The Science Museum is right next to the Natural History Museum, and is undoubtedly one of the best ones to visit in London with children, as it is very interactive and children often get fascinated there. Admission to these two museums is free.
Another museum that I love for children is the transport museum located in Covent Garden, in my opinion one of the best places to take children, especially if they like cars and buses.
5. Visit Kew Gardens
The Royal Botanical Garden of London is the next stop. Although it might sound boring to children, the truth is that it has many playgrounds, and a route to walk among the treetops, being a fun paradise for children and one of the places preferred by Londoners to take their children when the weather permits it. In addition, children under 17 can enter free of charge.
In winter there is also an event called Christmas at Kew, a tour that takes place after dark. With the botanical garden lit up with a path of lights and different shows that make it an unforgettable afternoon.
